Brand new Maruti Ertiga AT : ESP malfunction, dealer clueless (Mandovi Motors, Bangalore)

An Ertiga owner (who prefers to stay anonymous) shares his predicament with us and wants advice from BHPians on what to do? I have told him to email Maruti's customer care.

Quote:
I purchased an Ertiga ZXi AT and within 2 days, it developed a problem. "Service ESP system" error is showing on the MID. 3 to 4 technicians tried to find out the root cause, but were not successful. When I tried to contact Maruti via their call centre / regional head office for technical assistance, no one responded.
He is rightfully concerned about this happening to a brand new car and worse still, the dealer being clueless & Maruti unresponsive.

Dealer is Mandovi Motors, J P Nagar, Bangalore.

T/C off button makes no difference. Weirdly, the smart hydrid system appears to have stopped working after the ESP error, although the battery is charged to 4 points as per MID.

GTO, what is the error code? This looks like a malfunctioning relay or wheel speed sensor.

I have had this come up on other vehicles and its always been the wheel speed sensor - faulty, loose contact, water ingress or Rat damage.

Doesn't the wheel speed sensor error also light up the ABS warning? Seems that that is not the case here.

ABS lights should have lit up but not always, the first suspect is the relay, second wiring to ECM and then the sensor. If the error code is available, this can be fixed. The owner should push for a warranty claim.

Re: Brand new Maruti Ertiga AT : ESP malfunction, dealer clueless (Mandovi Motors, Bangalore)

Its not possible to guess what would have happened without knowing the error code. ESP systems take input from more than just the wheel speed sensors. It can even be the steering angle sensor which is faulty or not calibrated. This being the second mainstream venture of MSIL with ESP, the technicians might just be experimenting around. I would suggest the owner to instruct the dealership to escalate this issue to the TSM in the presence of the owner. If this has already been done then its a good time to raise a complaint with Maruti. It's best to escalate with the dealer in the owners side since if the owner independently complains, the dealer will bear the brunt of the matter which will affect future relations between the owner and dealer. Most probably they will just replace the ESP unit and check.

Re: Brand new Maruti Ertiga AT : ESP malfunction, dealer clueless (Mandovi Motors, Bangalore)

There are no details about what troubleshooting was carried out if any that also (and must) includes hooking up that scanner and finding the fault code followed by diagnosis.

And if the workshop was unable to find out the issue let alone fix it, I usually see them immediately involving the TSM (Territory Service Manager) for all the required technical assistance.

Knowing how they work and seeing things happening in front of me for various other cars including the known issue of SX4 Petrol overheating or AMT for Celerios, there is a procedure to follow and isolate the components and if required seek approval from TSM for replacement of some very expensive parts come what may.

Please ask the gentleman to shed some more light on what was done with respect to troubleshooting.

Also, as a mandate either the phone number of TSM is duly pasted somewhere in the workshop or the owner has all the rights to ask for the escalation details including email and phone of the TSM where he can escalate to and once done, MSIL is very quick in dealing with such cases.

Found a similar case in a Grand Vitara reported in Suzuki Forums. They replaced the ESP Actuator.

Hope the problem does not repeat, entire module should have been replaced.
