Re: Paint peeling off on a 3-year old Hyundai i20 Active. EDIT: Many more Hyundais affected

Here is another issue typical to the 2015 make Hyundai Creta's. There is a prominent rusting seen on the front driver and passenger door window frame under the rubber beading.
I had first noticed this issue in the year 2018, wherein there was a good amount of rusting on the LHS front passenger door. Also, there was a slight rust observed on the Driver side door. However, I got this fixed under warranty and Hyundai replaced the LHS passenger door and only painted the RHS door stating that the rust on the driver side door was very minor.
Now, after close to 1.5 years, the issue has re-surfaced and a good amount of rusting can be seen on the Driver door which was painted. So much so, that the metal can be seen chipping off.
On close observation, even the LHS passenger door that was replaced also has traces of rusting seen, although not very evident.
I don't stay near any beach area or areas having any form of salty atmosphere. Additionally, my car is parked under shade at all times and duly washed and pampered on routine basis.
Additionally, I have seen this issue being reported by many Creta owners of 2015 batch in our WhatsApp group.
I have taken up this issue with Hyundai along with the paint peel-off issue that I had mentioned in my earlier thread. Awaiting their response.

P. S.: Please move the post to the relevant forum. Couldn't find a thread specific to this issue.

Is there a fix or reason for this ? I'm guessing it would be pretty common on most cars due to water seeping under and staying there due to capillary action. I had the same problem of major rust on my Beat after 8 years and had to get it repainted

This issue is being reported mainly by owners of the cars manufactured in 2015 (first lot). After I saw these images, checked my car doors (October 2017 manufactured) and haven't found any rust or such paint chipping issues at all.

This issue is manufacturer level related and I think Hyundai is repainting those doors that have been affected when they come in for service.

I meant more of a general fix I guess it can happen to more car models especially over a longer ownership period

Please keep us posted with the updates from the company. This rusting case is even more serious than the peeling off. With the kind of latest technologies and processes in this era, these kind of defects are not acceptable. (1980s Ambassadors in some cases had rusting, but that is in 80s!!!)
Hope all of you who are facing these kind of issues get a permanent solution from Hyundai free of cost.
From a prospective future Hyundai Owner

Re: Paint peeling off on a 3-year old Hyundai i20 Active. EDIT: Many more Hyundais affected

Came across two YouTube videos in which they had to completely strip white hyundais due to their paint work failing. One is an old i20 and the other is an Eon. Looks like Hyundais have been having this issue for a long time now, but Hyundai doesn't seem to have found a solution to this. Looks like there is something fundamentally wrong with their paint booth at the Chennai plant.

Re: Paint peeling off on a 3-year old Hyundai i20 Active. EDIT: Many more Hyundais affected

So, this happened on my 2017 model Creta (1.6 SX Crdi White)

My dad noticed it today in our car and i really want advice from the community for the same, by no means i'am spending my own or my insurance's money to get this repainted.
Also, by sheer luck or perhaps probability since there are so many cretas around Delhi we spotted another white Creta on our route to work just minutes after noticing the issue in our car, with the exact same issue on the exact same place, the co incidence doesn't end there, the other car was also from the same showroom, judged by its number plate which had about the same series of number as ours, looked around as old as our car too, it was also SX 1.6 Crdi, and exact same variant as ours. (I have my way of figuring out the variants since SX, SX+ and SX (o) have only the SX badge but that's for another post)

I guess our very batch of Creta has started to develop this problem too, our car turns 4 today itself! So after exactly 4 years this happened as if they set a timer or something.

I really don't want to deal with the dealership at this moment, is there any way to get direct approval from Hyundai in writing and i can just take my car to get this panel painted? I know i will loose it when someone at dealership will try to pass the blame on to me, don't want to create a scene.

What more i rang up my cousin, who owns a SX plus petrol Creta, his car is a few months older to mine, it's white too, and guess what, his car had the exact same issue, he had no idea that it was a widespread issue and Hyundai guys told him that since he gets his car cleaned everyday, this happened! He got it painted at his own expense.
There should be an official recall for this because this is just not acceptable on a car that costs 15 lakhs!

This is how it Looks on our car

Spotted this i20 today, at first I thought it had such nicely defined paint peel off, then noticed it's a vinyl work to hide the same.

Saw a old Santro today at Kundapura. Had similar paint peeling off both ends of the boot door. All this time I thought this affected newer cars only.

Re: Paint peeling off on a 3-year old Hyundai i20 Active. EDIT: Many more Hyundais affected

This seems to be a global phenomenon with white Hyundais and not restricted to their cars that are made in India.

This Reddit Thread on R/Hyundai shows similar paint peeling on a 2017 Hyundai Elantra. The location appears to be North America.

Bunch of comments on the thread with some similar complaints.

How can this be such a widespread issue and yet Hyundai sitting and watching this? Especially in the USA I believe given the consumer laws, the consequences would have not been good compared to here in India.

One in the family. My cousin’s i20, white, don’t remember the year of manufacture, has this paint peeling off on the bonnet. Sorry, but no pictures at this point of time. My cousin didn’t know about this issue and just approached the ASC.
Hyundai ASC has agreed to fix/paint the panel.

Please ask the dealer to get to the bare metal and fix it. Else the issue will repeat.
