Re: The dangerously stupid e-parking brake location of modern cars

I recently happened to do this, i.e., pull the electronic handbrake lever which is located close to the armrest, inadvertently in my MG Astor. However fortunately nothing happened. I guess my speeds were city speeds close to 50kmph. Was relieved to know that this lever is de-active while the car is in motion. I don't fancy doing any drifting or donuts ever in my SUV , so I am OK with it being de-active while the car is in motion.

You wouldn't be if your brakes had just failed

But I don't know much good an electronic brake control would be anyway. Is it just a switch, meaning "handbrake" is either on or off with no graduation?

Yes, I am yet to drive a car that has this gadget, so I really don't know.

Yesterday, Scotty Kilmer again bashed e-parking brake. He cited an example when a Subaru driver has to literally asked a passer-by to find a rock and put it under the tyre

He even claimed that the e-parking brake is cheaper - the reason why OEMs are adopting it. And then, I see many folks mentioning e-parking brake as if it is a premium feature. Let us say, win-win for OEMs as well as for such buyers

Personally I like functional stuffs with rigorous fail-safe mechanism so 'kreetttttchhh' all the way.
