What is the max speed in each gear for a carb zen

Hi Guys

I was trying to push my zen to the max possible speed in second gear and was surprised when the speedo crossed 60 kmph as I thought that the max in 2nd would be around 40. Has anyone tried maxing their carb zen's in each gear? If so, what is the max speed in each gear for the carb version? and what is the difference in these speeds for the mpfi version?

The car does not cross 110-120 kmph in 5th gear on the highways....got everything checked at an authorised service center and it is fine. So checking out if the engine is able to reach the max speed in atleast every gear

A normal good zen carb engine should reach 110 easily....Time to get a good service i guess...
Try 4th gear at that speed..!!

I tried this immediately after a service only. I usually shift up to 5th at about 60kmph and then am only in 5th throughout. Havent tried being accelerating to higher speeds in lower gears till now. Will try to check this out sometime

4th gear have tried 130 in a battered zen with worn bearings/suspension+steering..so i m soo sure a good condition carb zen will atleast reach 140 as a top speed..!!

In 5th you will not achieve top speed, the gear is for cruising. Use 4th gear for top speed. You will notice, if you were doing 140, the minute you shift to 5th, your speed would drop.

How is it different for a Diesel vehicle? For example I read somewhere that Swift VDi top speed is achieved in 5th gear, not in 4th.

Its got to do with the torque characteristics of diesels. They produce higher amount of torque than similar capacity petrols.

Yup you probably read it correct about the swift ddis. Even my accent crdi achieved its top speed in 5th gear.

If I am not wrong, even the NHC does its top in 5th.... again b'coz the peak power comes in quite early at 5000rpm (more like diesel) though the revv limit remains at 6000rpm.

And about the zen in question here.... i don't think it would serve any purpose pushing the car in every gear, because it would always meet those benchmarks. As the case seems there is a marginal loss of power and it would be only evident in 4th and 5th gears.

Moreover, I assume this 110-120km/h in the 5th gear was done only with one person aboard, b'coz with something like 4-5 people 120km/h is ok for that car.
