There is a method to it, LOL.
You wipe the dipstick clean and very rapidly insert fully and withdraw it.

Exactly !!

I am sure the manufacturers did not mark the dipstick for checking with the engine running.

What do additives do when added to the engine oil? I am thinking of shifting to Castrol GTX Magnatec and I believe ti is 10W-40. I plan to flush the existing oil the normal 15W-40 and add fresh Castrol Magnatec. How will that affect in terms of engine noise/performance/cold starts?
