Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Water Seepage Update :

Get a call from Mr. Prakash Bidve, regional customer support manager for MP. He updated me that the part is already dispatched from Pune . He told me the part will reach on 19th and they can deliver my car on that day itself. They will be drying the car and he will personally co-ordinate the activites via video call.

As per him the problem is a crack in the AC drain pipe and water leakage is due to condensation.

Told me specifically to update the social media

Thanks TeamBHP for the support and guidance. Expecting the car to be with us by this Saturday

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Just saw a similar post on a engine failure in a new Merc GLE and now this. In the quest for launching newer features, manufacturers are losing out on covering the basics. The worst part is it is not limited to our homegrown manufacturers, even the so-called "Pall Bearers" of automotive engineering are guilty.

A friend had a similar experience in his brand new Elantra a year back. Poor guy was dropping off his colleagues back from work and showing off the new car when the water tap opened up on the passenger side. While fix was easy the embarassment surely wasn't pleasant !

On the positive side, your issue seems to be an isolated one, haven't seen such reports from other Harrier Owners/ Media test drives.

This is so true. When I drove my new car home in 2018 and called out my father to check out the car, the car didn't start then and I felt so dejected in front of all when I saw my brand new car dead with not even 10km on the odo. But that was it, the car was towed to the A.S.S next day morning by themselves and it was returned to me on the same evening with the promise of "This won't happen again Sir.".

Now after 2 years and 60000 km on odo, I am a super happy owner!

So such things happen, lets's hope for the best to our friend.

In India, it all boils down to luck. There's a thread in the forum about rainfall inside a brand new Toyota Crysta cabin.

There have been recalls galore from every brand here. It's how your company deals with it that's important. In your case, I guess the dealer's been proactive thus far. So kudos to them.

Btw, I remember my colleague getting a brand new Indica in 2009. First drive after reaching home, he pulled the door shut from inside, the handle/armrest uprooted from the door panel and came out
All he got was the handle screwed back and filled with araldite along with two free service coupons.

And this is what sets TATA apart from the others.
greyhound 82 - congratulations on your purchase of the new beast! wish you many miles of happy drives with it.
On a seperate note there was a 3 star with engine troubles too which only goes to proove such issues can occur. As a previous owner of a Dicor and a Storme, i can with confidence tell you these trucks will never let you down if cared well. A cracked pipe that spoiled your new car days can be brushed off - not to worry as other brands have bigger and more damaging issues that have been shared in the past. Hopefully when you get the beast back on 19th, all is sorted and things will be fine.
Enjoy driving!

4 days to get a simple part from Pune to Bhopal .
What am i missing here ?
Has your dealer not filed a VOR (urgent repair status)?
In the meantime has Tata or the Dealership offered you a loaner car ?

Its appalling that he has the nerve to ask you to actually do that . Speaks very badly of Tata customer service standards especially when you had to call them out on social media and Team-Bhp to get proper service for a new car .
TATA needs to provide you with a proper written explanation for the cause of the leak and details on the repairs they are carrying out .
TATA should also REPLACE your Carpet and not just dry it while ensuring there are no chances of corrosion in the foot well area in the future .

When will companies learn that this just doesn't work? And it doesn't even make sense. If they do a good job with the fix, it's actually good publicity. Cars have problems but the company's approach to fixing it matters more. If they do a bad job or cause further headaches, does he really expect a pissed off customer to care two hoots about Tata's image?

And yes, the only reason they're even this much is because you posted it on social media and Team BHP in the first place!

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Instead of designs, Tata should focus more on improving it's build quality. Despite having Jaguar & Land Rover since 2008, these flaws in new cars are unacceptable. It takes a long time to change the"unreliable" image and unless there is a full hearted effort from Tata, this image is not going anywhere.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Do not let this incident rob you of the new car feel. It can happen with any car. I remember being stuck in the first gear of my almost new XUV 500 within the 1st month of purchase. I could not change the gear and was completely exasperated. The car was towed to their service center and returned the next day with a reply that it was a "Minor" issue and the part has been changed. Since it was evening when the car was towed and returned to me the afternoon next day I trusted my guts with the "Minor" explanation as the time period was too short for any major repairs.

Anyways long story short, it has been 7 years with the car, close to 100K , some niggles but overall it has never left me stranded on the highway.

Niggles will happen. End of the day, it is a complex machine. How they deal with it is the most important part.

QC has never being a strong point of Indian manufacturers and I hope they up the game soon. Else, word of mouth negative publicity will ruin whatever positive image these newer, beautiful cars are creating. People have still not forgotten Indica and Indigo.

Initial 1000kms can be full of surprises. My 2017 Honda City's AC panel melted within first week of delivery. It was quickly fixed by Honda and the problem never surfaced again. I hope this is the first and last time you face this ordeal.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Issues could happen with any manufacturer. Good thing is the root cause is known. Quality issues with OEM supplier of hose pipe or the assembly is what TATA has to take care of to avoid such mishap. In my opinion, TATA not forcing customer to remove social media complaints and doing their bit to resolve, being empathetic to customer is a good thing.

Good to read this update, and also thumbs up to you for remaining cool and calm while interacting with the dealer and TML.

Like others have said before me, stuff happens. I have faced it with my Scorpio, and have friends who have faced it with their Marutis, Hyundais, Fords and Hondas. What matters most is how the manufacturer resolves the problem - whether the fix is prompt and permanent, or lackadaisical and recurring. I sincerely hope Tata won't give you more cause for complaint in this regard.

Also, don't let this incident and the inevitable "told you so" dialogs from "well wishers" create a feeling of buyer's remorse in you. You have made an excellent choice in buying the Harrier, and am sure it will take you and your family on many happy and safe journeys.

Do update this thread after the repairs are done and successfully verified by you.

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

Tata has along way to go in terms of quality and after sale service, and that is the only thing which keeps me away from Tata.
I believe they have some wonderful products like Altroz, Nexon and Harrier but
they need to better their overall quality standards in order to improve the sales and brand value!

Re: 2020 Tata Harrier Automatic : Official Review

I don't think all manufacturers give loaner cars, unless you have expensive cars or you raise hell with them. My Hyundai Santro was at the dealer shop for 6 days for steering assembly and clutch replacement, but they never offered one nor gave one when I asked.

Sad part was that the car was handed over without even dusting outside, forget interior washing.

1. Dealer told us that they have placed an emergency order yesterday .
2. Today they offered me a loaner car but decided not to take it as we will get our car on Saturday

End of the day we are happy with the car , dealer , the way Tata handled this till now and to be a part of TeamBHP community
