I realise that weird things are not always easy to explain, but your descriptions here could be seen as a little deficient / hard to understand by anyone trying to diagnose: a "pull", a "feel" a "change" isn't actually a lot to go on.
If 4Hi were actually mechanically switching you shouldn't actually be able to feel anything at all, since Thar's is a shift-on-the-fly system, I certsinly don't feel anything on the Getaway when I switch at speed.
BUT: honestly, I do not think it is even mechanically possible for 4Lo to engage at 40kmph. Massive damage to the transfer case and possibly other things would normally result from attempting to, whether the driver or vehicle glitch were at fault. If it could engage at all, it would not be a subtle feeling or "pull", there would more likely be very noticable clashing / grinding sounds and/or violent jerks.
For another thing, your vehicle speed sensor(s) are clearly operating, and ECU would not allow that 4Lo to engage at any sensed speed, for the above reason.
The ASC *should* (in theory) be able to check related diagnostic codes if a 4x4 engagement was attempted at speed. If Mahindra engineering felt that was a worthwhile inclusion.
When it comes to intermittent electronic glitches, one of the hardest things to do is to replicate issues when you want them to. If not, things get tougher.
I worked in auto electronics earlier, we would put ECMs/BCM's, MAFs and whatever into ovens, then freezers, and while at those temp extremes apply repeated mechanical shock-loads with pneumatic actuators while testing circuits ańs programs electronically, all this just to try and replicate electronic faults that (barring component- level failures) usually come down to contact/continuity issues (i.e. bad solder joints) between components and boards; The temp variations and mechanical shocks tend to expose those due to expansion/contraction etc.
Obviously you can't do this with an entire system with multiple remote components... which is why even ASC's can find diagnoses difficult despite even the best efforts.
...All this is why I *despise* electro-shift systems and any other unnecessary electronics, and wonder what, exactly, was supposed to be wrong with the previous Thar's full mechanical system, that they felt they had to "upgrade" to something like this...:Frustrati

Its not an upgrade. The TC is similar to the one in the old Thar, hence, it is not possible for the vehicle to suddenly go into 4Low while at highway speeds.
However, the user thinks so. I'm waiting for him to get feedback and diagnosis from the dealership. May be after that, whatever I say will be more understandable.
Replying on that thread for the issue that I shared, Mahindra Dealership said that on Tuesday Mahindra Engineers will be coming and mine is not the first issue like this. Its 2nd one, same issue was seen with another Thar.
Mahindra Engineers came and replaced parts, which he did not tell me yet as to what were replaced. I have shared enough proof inform of videos with them and waiting to drop the vehicle on Tuesday.

Oh, wow... really? In that case sorry for the misinfo re: shift-on-fly. Instructions posted below indeed specify switching in motion at very low speeds only, had missed that.
So then it can only be the gear position indicator switch/ sensor, right?
Why would the ASC fiddle with any fuse?
The OP's sensed/imagined "pull" or whatever is indeed also mysterious then, unless the gear indicator is also tied to electronically actuated hub locks, in which case he may feel something.
Good to hear the Thar retained a manual selector, assuming that's correct.

Update - since I shared the issue here, it's been almost 3 Plus days and now 4H has not autoengaged. Not even once, seems like it ghosted on me.
Having said this, even though the issue is not seen, will still have it checked with Mahindra Engineers on Tuesday. That's the scheduled meeting day.
Hi folks, have been facing 2 issues in my 2021 Thar D AT recently, just wanted to check if anyone else has faced anything similar:
1. Cruise control is acting extremely weird. When I engage at 80kmph, I press the set button and system would maintain the cars speed at 80 without me pressing the throttle. Whereas now the system shows cruise is engaged, however the car doesn't maintain the speed, when I manually press the OFF button and then the RES button, the car picks up speed and maintains 80kmph on its own as it should. This has never happened in the last 2 years I've had the car.
Also, when my speed has reduced and I press the RES button, the MID shows cruise engaged and the car starts to pick up speed, if there is a downward slope coming (exiting a flyover), the car picks up speed till there is slope, after that it doesn't and the car starts slowing down naturally. I again have to press the OFF button and then RES for the car to pick up speed and maintain it.
2. Ever since my last service (30k kms service), the idle rpm seems to have increased and is usually 950 now, quite often it goes to 1000-1050 also. I remember it being around 800-900 before. What is the idle rpm for others ?
Hey Folks, today I took delivery of my soft top Mahindra Thar LX manual from NBS Mahindra and on my way home I got check engine light and Thar went into limp mode. The RPM is getting limited to 2000. Took photo and sent it to the sales advisor and he asked me to wait till tomorrow morning. Somehow I managed to reach home all the while praying that it doesn't halt on the highway as I was with my family. It is so embarrassing that I quietly parked the Thar and went home and cancelled going out with my friends to celebrate the arrival of new vehicle in the family.

3. Grinding noise from the brakes which scares the hell out of you as if there is a stone stuck in between the pads. Happens when you suddenly encounter a deep depression (dip) on the road while driving at a consistent speed and with late braking, you just dive into the dip. [b]Seems to be fixed during second service, haven't occurred since. |
Any idea on what caused this issue and the solution, I am facing the similar issue and the service centre guys have no clue.

Is it a diesel or petrol? Based on my very limited reading since I am not too interested in Thar, it is most likely a very minor issue that will be resolved. I have seen the issue being related to fuel pump relay in the engine compartment giving similar CEL error in new Thars or even DPF related errors. Your car is too new for DPF error though.
I hope this is a minor, one time thing and may you have a happy ownership experience henceforth.

This does sound a bit like ABS at work. Have experienced the same in other cars, in similar conditions
You will likely face the same in case of change of surface also, from tarmac to mud, under braking

Mine is a diesel Manual Transmission.
The car is still at Sky Automobile. Yesterday they changed a few parts, scanned the vehicle and ECL was not showing on the MID but after taking a short test drive again the vehicle went into limp mode. They have asked for 1 more day to diagnose the issue. In 48 hours of ownership, Thar is at the workshop for more than 36 hours. Now i am worried as well as embarrassed after taking delivery of the Thar.
:sadface
Hello Friends, My 2nd Gen Thar from 2021 has steering drag to the left problem from the moment i bought it as a used vehicle about 6 months back.
I tried wheel alignments, toe nut adjustments, tire rotations with the local dealer in Chennai more than once however the issue persists.
I found one useful post here for a similar issue mentioning to calibrate the steering however when approached to the dealer with this solution they are either utterly ignorant or lazy to try it. On the contrary they try to convince me by allowing me to try other customers Thar with the same issue quoting that its more of a character of the Thar rather complain; further they blame it on the usual pathetic roads found all over Chennai.
However I'm thoroughly convinced that my Thar's steering needs a fix that I'm yet to uncover.
So here I'm looking for some direction to go about this!
Thanks in Advance!

Team,
1. Android auto disconnection issues simply aren't being fixed. I have spent thousands on cables and new phones to no avail. This despite a head unit change is a problem that has no fix. If you can give me chassis numbers (last 5) I can formalize this and push for a recall. I've even tried fresh short tables (30 cm) to no avail. |
Is this issue resolved for you? I recently bought a RWD and I am facing the same issue. If it is still there for you we can discuss this further.

This is a rampant issue that I have complained about 10 times and not much has changed.
It will not get resolved. Very few people have achieved a degree of success with new cables. I'd really like if this is forked to a new thread since even GTO and seasoned people like Phoenix here are facing the same issue whether 2020 or 2023 YOM.
If MnM could at least commit to one of the two I'd be fine.
1. The new 5D head unit?
2. A replacement. They were listing tons of android play compatible options for the lower trims on m2all. Or make it a BYOHU (bring your own head unit) scene.
Please DM me your VIN so that I can attach you to my list of confirmed VINs with this defect. :thumbs up
I don't think I can DM here since I do not have privileges for that in the forum. Pls suggest how can I share the VIN.

Even I have given up now. I received my car today after 10 days yesterday and got the same issue again. I gave it for inspection for the same issue. They keep on asking for more videos and now they've asked me to check my phone.
Also reading the old posts I can see the people facing this issue are also facing random instrument cluster restart. Maybe they are connected somehow as I am facing that as well.
Maybe we can get that thread created for Android auto issue and discuss there since it's difficult here with multiple discussions going on.
