Removing footwear while driving ?

What is it about removing foot wear while driving?
I have seen many people, drivers, remove their footwear just before they start driving.
Does it not hurt their sole of feet?
Does it not obstruct the pedals?
Does it not move around while braking etc?
I thought it is a ‘beginner thing’. But I’ve also seen much older group of people doing it.
Even I have tried once in my early days of driving. It hurt so much so I stopped it.
Does any BHPian also remove their footwear while driving ?
If so, why? Just curious.

Re: Removing footwear while driving ?

I've been travelling to Lucknow a lot lately, since October last year, from Noida. It's a 500 km drive, 95% on the expressway. I just set the cruise at the speed limit, and sit with shoes off. But that's the only kind of drive where us folks would be comfortable without shoes. In normal drives, where a lot of ABC is required(which is everywhere else), yes, being without shoes is very uncomfortable.
Ps: Shoes go under the seat
