Re: Are BS6 diesel cars with DPF suitable for primarily town/city usage (DPF–diesel particulate filt

For answer to both your questions, may I suggest you look at the entire Petrol Innova threads to get some idea:

https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...7l-petrol.html (Review: Toyota Innova Crysta 2.7L Petrol AT)

Less relevant is the manual petrol version link with its mileage mentioned at https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-...ol-review.html (Garnet Queen: My 2021 Toyota Innova Crysta GX MT Petrol Review)

The summary which can be extrapolated from the links above:
1. Mileage : Assume petrol mileage as half of diesel (5-6 kmpl for Fortuner in city from the links above to be extra cautious) and then with your running you can plug in the numbers to see if the gap of 4 lakhs takes 3-4-5-6 years to recover.
2. Resale value: Currently, this purely depends on whether you stay in Delhi vs Rest of India. In Delhi, due to the rules for diesel vehicles, a long kept petrol vehicle doesn't have much difference with a diesel one initially and a huge difference in favour of petrol as it closes in/crosses the 10 year mark. In Chennai though, wouldn't be too surprised if the number of Petrol Innovas (forget Fortuner) is extremely low in the online car portals. That should give an idea of current resale scenario with current rules in Chennai.

Interestingly, the diesel Fortuner is almost certain to get replaced next year as per their Chief Engineer with a diesel hybrid though the price is only going to go up further

All the best in your decision making process

Re: BS6 Diesels: DPF clogging issues if driven just in the city?

Off topic, does the bs6 diesel tailpipe still has that thick black soot we are used to see in bs4 and older cars? Or the dpf/scr combo is preventing that from happening?

Thanks.

For the kind of usage you have mentioned, diesel vehicle makes no sense. But a petrol fortuner would make no sense either. I'll agree with what MSC has said. A vehicle of that size would be too cumbersome to drive in city traffic and to park as well. However if you are looking for a replacement for the Corolla Altis, I'd suggest you check in the same segment which leaves you with only 2 options - Octavia/Elantra. Else if you are ok with moving to a higher segment then it would be Superb/Camry. But again practicality would be an issue.

The tail pipe of a BS6 diesel is cleaner than that of a BS4 petrol. No trace of soot at all.

This was the condition at 20k kms and it's still the same after crossing 30k kms
