Hmm.. No A/C in city driving and in this heat ?? Thanks, but I prefer not to have a fresh coat of carbon deposit on my face as I drive along keeping the windows open. :)

Lets give credit where its due. The Baleno engine is inherently fuel efficient without compromising on other parameters. All you have to do is drive sensibly and service the car regularly.

Leg off the A pedal in 5th means no fuel being injected at all ..

I used to think that too, but I'm not so sure anymore.

Where did you hear that from? Have you ever hit the rev limiter...thats what a fuel cut will feel like. Although companies are trying to figure out how to cut fuel on some cylinders and keep the misfire, vibration and shake under control.

Yes , I have hit the limiter and do know how it feels.. In some cars I hear that the limiter is not only based on fuel cut off but ignition cut off also or so I am told .. Well I have heard the above from a couple of tuners that I know and also have read about the same on this very forum ... Here is the proof :

Building standalones I atleast expect karthik to know what he is talking about .. I could be wrong though just like anyone in this world ..

Once I have gained enough speed I simply would shift to 5th from 3rd directly(city driving). Its pretty rare that we find a chance to do this these days in bangalore, but then I do it every time I find an instance.

Can someone throw light on this , if this is advisable?

I do it too. Fortunately the route to my office is spared of the traffic jams in other places. I quick-shift to 5th from 3rd primarily because I'm a 5th gear guy and hate driving the car in lower gears. The knock-on effect is the above-average FE I get

Hmmm.. When was the last time you drove your car.. cause in what... ummm.. 5 meets and not once i have seen the Swift.. Parked at home all time should give you exceptionally good mileage..Which i doubt even solar powered vehicles can match.

Anytime!

Rahul...engine ON means fuel is being injected...we both know that..its the principle pn which the IC engine works

Whose car did you think I was standing next to during the most recent Tavern party? Mine. I cant help it if Vikram_D's and my black Swifts look the same. Bad observation skills from a supposed mafia don. Now - coming back to mileage - you should try the 5th gear quickshift in your Safari and see if you like the results.

There is also something known as DFCO (deceleration fuel cut off) .. Try and do some research on it .. I am too lazy to put up the links .. Maybe it will redefine your knowledge about IC engines and the advent of newer technology ..

While we're on the topic of extracting mileage, I did drive your Safari the other nite in 5th gear. You'd be surprised at how tractable it is even in Bengalooru traffic and I'm sure the mileage would be fractionally higher during that tank-up

AAhhhhh.. now i know what took you 20 min....

i have achieved an average of 23.9 km/l in my laura (stock) while returnin home(mulund) from nariman point @ around 11:30 p.m. shifting done in the range of in the range of 1200 - 1500 rpm. , and in the 5th gear driving @ approx 60-70 km/h

26.49 kgm of torque did the trick ....
and yes shifting to neutral works wonders ...
