If just the plastic nob is broken then just the gear nob will be replaced...so it will cost you the complete gear nob + labour. I hope its not the leather padded sports gear nob which comes in sports model as the availability for that is a problem. Ask you friend to pay a visit to vivek Auto (its pretty close to Faridabad)

Its not the plastic ring(for reverse) on the lever which is broken...!!! The lever n clip on it are fine
Somewhere the connection of the nob with the gearbox is broken because now while slotting it in reverse it falls into fourth gear...

Its a Palio 1.2 ELX NV 04 model....

Go straight to the service station maan....If the gearbox has to be brought down then the labour charges are Rs 1500 bucks

Rishi just advised, considering the Gear Shift Problem, In any case it appears to be a broken shifter...Get it checked.

I think he meant " The Reverse Gear Shifter" is a slight step based shifter, which needs to be pulled up for engaging reverse gear..like the Cielo..!

I remember spending an Hour in the summer heat, 5 years back in my Uncles New Palio, Figuring how to get the car in reverse mode.

There are many cars with such kind of reverse gear mechanism like Astra, Verna , Corsa n some European cars...Japanese cars dont have such clip system...

I think the first car in India which had this kind of reverse gear system was Opel Astra...

you have to get the car to the service station in any case. I would suggest not to continue driving without a reverse gear.

Hi !!

Many European cars have this safety mechanism so as to avoid any chances of a person engaging a reverse gear accidently when he wanted to move to the 4th gear instead.

Palio and Astra have this feature.

Hope that explains and you may now ask your friend to contact Vivek Auto for corresponding repairs.
