Kia owners who are facing the issue of key fob battery drain please contact your dealer as it is not a mass recall and they will be doing it for people who raises a complaint on battery drain issue of the key fob. Will update once I get it done, hopefully by this Saturday. |
It's been a while, I couldn't get it done till now and was using the spare key which also died in 6 months. So took it to Incheon Kia, Kottayam. Got the PCB & Battery replaced free of cost. And they did it in 20 minutes time(KIA Kochi had informed it will take 3 hours).
So please feel free to complaint if your key fob battery doesn't last more than a year.
Attaching the bill of the parts replaced.
I still wonder why the bill mentions KIA as KIN, not surprised with the KN car searches.
Saw this 'drained cell' icon on my Ciaz and was wondering what is it all about.
A search in the manual showed that it is a warning about a weakening key fob battery.
Amazing tech I tell you. I wish this feature was there on my Safari Dicor.
Continuing with the heart of this thread, Ciaz comes with CR 2032 3v battery. It lasted just 6 months in this key fob, will check the other one tomorrow.

Hi. I am facing the same issue with my seltos key where its draining the battery every 20 days. Can you please share the copy of the bill and also the information about the silent recall if you have it. TIA.
My punto’s key fob battery went unchanged for 10 years.
Brio battery was replaced after 5 years to Duracell.
Civic’s battery replaced after about 2 years. Fitted a Renata battery and it is working fine for 3 years now.

Looks like the key fob of my Punto has died. am unable to unlock the car manually using the key as well. Do we know what the reason can be? Car battery is new, but the car hasn't been used much and lying idle for a couple of months now. Even to jump start, I need the car opened. Any ideas to unlock the car?
Also what battery does the Fiat key fob come with? Is it CR2032 3V?

If I understand correctly, the door lock is not opening with keys manually. Correct?
What about the boot lock?
This happened to me long time back with Ford Figo and the service center team was of the view that the non usage of the manual lock has rendered it unusable and advised to change the lock se.
Just check once with the FASS, they might suggest a way to let you in the car.
Yea, Fiat remotes comply with CR2032.

Did you try to lubricate the key hole & the key with a little oil, to check whether it will make the key turn? You can try to spray WD40 in the key slot as another alternative.
Doesn't the Punto come with key holes on both the front doors? If so, are you unable to open from both sides?
The key only moves the actuator arm to unlock and I don't think there should be a major issue with the lock, if it was working fine with the remote
Maruti Brezza VXI 2022 Dec. No auto start/stop feature on fob, just for locking & unlocking doors. I generally try to swap the car keys in a sequence - typically couple of weeks, but not very rigorously. One of the key fobs started needing multiple key press etc. around Oct 2024, so now primarily using the other key fob, under the impression that the one needing multiple presses is low on battery. Was trying to replace the button cell myself today. Opening was pretty easy with small Philips head and another one to pry open (softly :) ) the inner compartment. Lots of DIY videos on youtube, nothing really great. However while opening the inner case, I pressed the unlock button unintentionally while seating in my bedroom at 2nd floor, and suddenly heard the card unlock itself in the ground floor parking!!
Guess the battery is still alive, would keep using the less-used fob now for next few weeks and see if it needs a change.
The battery it requires is a CR1616 (3V). MSIL provided Panasonic battery.
My Toyota Urban Cruiser's throwing a key fob battery low error. But it's showing only on the instrument cluster, no errors on the infotainment screen. Isn't it supposed to show an error there as well? The key works fine, the car starts up without having to use the RFID feature. However, the error shows up on the cluster every single time the car is switched on and disappears after a few seconds.
I understand this means I should change the battery, but I am confused as the car is only 2 and a half years old. Is this normal, does the batteries last this long only? And either way, why is the error not showing up on the infotainment screen? I checked the settings, everything is fine there and key fob battery low alert is switched on in he vehicle alert settings. Any idea on what's wrong?
Oh and by the way, the front passenger side door doesn't lock/unlock using the central locking system since last month. I have to manually throw the lock from within the car. It doesn't work by using the lock/unlock button by the driver side window switches either. Does this have anything to do with this?
