Given that both vehicles at home have completed 5 years and are no longer covered by warranty, I take them to a FNG for routine maintenance.

Engine oil and filter, air filter, cabin filter are changed every 6 months. This is around 6k a year per vehicle. Consumables are ordered from boodmo and the FNG charges 500 for labour.
Once a year, the vehicles get a exterior treatment at 3M - foam wash, clay, buffing, the works. I have a pressure washer at home, so weekends are usually when the steeds get a wash. Otherwise, a quick go over with the trusty Jopasu duster suffices.
Wiper blades are replaced as and when required.
This does not cover any other work, like dent repair or painting.

Skoda Rapid Tsi 2021 - I took the 4 years service package which costed 30k so 7.5k per year but first service itself costed 5k due to rat chewing the ac coupler wiring. So a total of 12.5k. Additionally i changed my oil and filter at 22.5k kms which costed 3.5k.
Insurance costed 25k for second year.


Swift Dzire 2015 - There have been 10 services of dzire till date and 8 out of 10 have been in the asc. Bill mostly hovered around 10k for all those 8 services. Last year got it serviced at an FNG for 6.5K.
This time I performed the major service as a DIY which costed 8.3k. On an average dzire costs 8.3k per year.
Insurance costs 14-17k per year depending on claims.

I have a Honda city Petrol manual 2013. Car is serviced at Honda service centre every 6 months and service cost comes to 4-4.5k every time.

For a 7 year old Ford Aspire, regular service doesn't cross 6-7k, but the car now requires a visit to the service center every six months because something or the other keeps breaking or stops working and they make sure the bill is not less than 5k. So it is in the vicinity of 12-15k a year. At the start of this year I changed the tyres and got some denting/painting done and got a TPMS spending about 35k. Also got a new dashcam but that will be transferred to a new car I may get in near future so not counting it.

I have four cars a Bolero, an XUV 500 and a Swift (D) and an I 20 (P). All cars are now 6-10 yrs old. The Bolero and Swift run for about 20 k per year and XUV and I20 run about 6k -8 k per year. My average yearly expense per car doesn't exceed 10k except for two breakdowns that two Mahindra's had once each.

Some rules that I follow, since all cars are self driven and in very benign conditions preventive servicing is carried not before 15 k of running.

No tinkering with brake or cooling systems at all, no replacement of fluids as well. In my opinion if kept in order they run the lifetime of the vehicle.

Only FNG, 18% GST at ASS hurts.

No clutch work carried out except in XUV which was slave cylinder failure and not clutch or pressure plate.

Brake pads replacement only on need basis.

Lastly God almighty has been kind.

Looking back at the service history, a few things stand out for my (earlier) GT TSI of 7 years and 75000 kms (my current car is new enough to not incur any bills)

With no part failures barring the odd ABS sensor, brake pad replacement and consumables from the service center kept the average annual service bill to around 12K

Two sets of tyre replacements primarily driven by the desire to upgrade brought in 50K of expenses over the ownership period, whereas one set might have sufficed purely from a wear point of view

The (naive) quest for a blemish free paint work really skewed the add on costs, add my ill luck with stone chips on the bonnet and scratches gifted by other vehicles while parked, there was repainting amounting to 22K overall

Detailing done at dealership and outside worth 20K (over and above repainting)

Sprucing up the car with OE accessories (arm rest, brass tyre valve caps) as well as others (various mobile holders, various mats, Osram night breakers, Momo rims) costed approximately 60K

Summing it up, the true upkeep cost as per recommended maintenance schedule is but a fraction of what we splurge on our cars in toto!

Brake fluid and transmission fluid are not lifetime fluids (including sealed for life trans) please change them as per service manual intervals no matter how little the car has run, or you risk catastrophic failure as they break down with time.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air, this lowers its boiling point and if it exceeds 3%-4% moisture content it can evaporate when you brake on a hot day and if this happens, the master cylinder will lose all pressure causing the pedal to sink to the floor and result in complete brake failure. For most cars the brake fluid change interval is 2-3 years.

Major replacement - Fuel pump (Damaged by Rat), Brake Cylinder, Clutch assembly
All within fourth year of ownership and car is still with us

2). 10-Year-Old Duster RXL 110 cost above 50k - Parts are too costly compared to initial cost of the car
Major replacement - AC compressor, One fuel injector, AC-control unit
Started after 6th year of ownership and car is still with us

If it's annual service cost alone, I pay about 5k for my EcoSport diesel with synthetic oil. In my case my running is too high(26k in 7 months) so there cost hovers between 12-15k. If I include insurance, it's another 14k. I'm not including the EMI amount as it's not a maintenance cost.

BMW 520d (bought Feb 2021) - Rs. 13,000/- for 1st year service (free since I opted for the 3 yr/40k service package, which on hind sight is a waste). The service interval is condition based (approx. 12k kms). I had clocked 5.2k kms at first service. Only engine oil/filter was changed as per CBM.

Honda Jazz VX CVT (bought Feb 2020) - Rs. 11,375/- per year. Total Rs. 28,431/-. Quite expensive considering the car has done <10,000 kms. Honda service is every 6 months.

Ford Ecosport 1.5 Petrol Titanium+ Auto (bought Feb 2018) - approx Rs. 5,000/- per year. Total < Rs. 25,000/-. Service interval is 10k / one year whichever comes earlier. Ford maintenance is very reasonable. Have clocked 52k kms in 4.5 years.

For our Creta (recently sold after using it for 5 years) the average annual service cost would be about 12k. The most expensive item in the bill would be the fully synthetic oil. The last bill for the 30k service was higher at 19k because I had all the brake pads replaced as well.

For our i10 grand, the annual servicing cost is about 8-10k. We have owned this for 3 years now.

All our cars have always been serviced at the ASC and we have never faced any issue with the quality of work or transparency with the invoice.

We now own a Tata Safari, in addition to the i10, and it is due for its first service in 3 weeks. So cant say much here.

Maintaining Nexon costs you Rs.75000/- a year ? You must mean Rs.7500/- a year.

My Safari DiCor costs about Rs.10000 - 25000 a year on average from the time I bought it. The higher figure stands for parts replacement - clutch, front suspension work and aircon coil. I have always serviced in ASS.

Tata Tiago service costs about 7k to 11 k a year.

I have replaced the tires at around 9 years though the tires had not worn out. I changed them as the rubber would have become brittle after 9 years.
