For most cars the brake fluid change interval is 2-3 years.
Thanks for pointing it out and I don't disagree with it at all.

The point that I wanted to make was that replacement needs to be on condition and not based on periodicity.

Brake fluid needs to be replaced in surgically clean environment, probability of ingress of dirt, grime and moisture is likely to cause much greater harm to the system and cause failure of seals than system sealed at OEM. Secondly I do not think we need to worry of evaporation of fluid, if fluid levels are ok, it will take many days for it to escape large enough volume to cause failure and in the mean time give more than adequate notice.

Thirdly it is about the systems themselves which are normally designed to take much greater beating than 95% of drivers can bring to bear on the vehicle. So unless one is in the balance 5 percent, I wouldn't let fear dictate my decisions but check, verify and act when required, it will save us substantial sums.

With brake fluid it’s not condition based, only time based as it absorbs moisture even in a sealed system, irrespective of how much or little the car is driven.

I think I wasn’t clear, I’m not referring to evaporation to air. I’m saying it will boil and vaporise within your brake lines, (as moisture lowers the boiling point drastically) since it’s a hydraulic system this will lead to a loss of all pressure in the brake cylinders and subsequent failure, all this despite the fluid being at the full mark in the reservoir.

Less catastrophically, moisture in the brake lines can also lead to corroded callipers and cylinders.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

I own a ISUZU D Max V Cross and my annual maintenance cost is somewhere in between 12K to 16 K so voted for second option i.e. 10K - 25K. This includes service cost as well as wheel alignment etc. In the last 4 years of ownership changed the battery once and once the front axle. The average cost is 12.5 K annually

For my earlier car which was an Ecosport the average cost used to be around 4-5K annually and i drove it for 126 K Kms and then sold it off.

Moreover I always do the service in the ASS only.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno 2018 Petrol
Kms run ~ 24,000
1st Free service -> 79
2nd Free service -> 0
3rd Free service -> 1475
1st Paid service (20K) -> 5995

To sum it up annual upkeep cost to maintain is approximately equal to 8K INR. I do all my services at ASC and tell SA to not over-inflate the bills.
P.S 1)Annual Insurance premium is approximately equal to 15,000.
2) Annual upkeep will go upward as the car ages. (Due to frequent part replacements)

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

My 2014 Q5 2.0 tdi drinks about a lakh in maintenance every year (everything done at an FNG). My 2019 Brezza diesel sips 6-8k every year.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

I have a Brezza zdi+ 6.5 years old and has run 58k kms.

I just came across the maruti service app and had the complete history. I computed the total cost (including 25k of body work I had over these years) and averaged it out. Came to 18.5k per year.

Re: Which car have you owned that had surprisingly high maintenance costs?

Maruti WagonR F10

Annual maintenance

Engine oil - ₹1.5k
Oil filter - ₹100
Air filter - ₹200
Spark plugs - ₹500
Labour - ₹0. I change all these myself, very easy.

Total - ₹1.8k (spark plugs are changed only once every 25k kms)

Other works like clutch replacement, suspension replacement, etc. costs under ₹20k including parts and labour. I do these works at FNG, hence the lower rates. ASC is always expensive. Overall, the car is boringly reliable.

Maruti Omni MPFl (sold)

Annual maintenance - ₹1.5k. Again, simple DIY

Used it for 85k kms. Other than annual maintenance, it only needed clutch replacement once and rear leaf spring bushes were also replaced once. It's chassis, steering, front suspension, propeller shaft, differential and other aggregates were extremely durable and never required any overhaul. And the little van was super fun to drive!

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

I have used many brands. Between Hyundai and Honda I found the latter though costing a bit more the parts lasted a lot longer. Thus the reduced hassle was well worth the higher cost.

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

Advice needed
Fellow BHPans, I have an EcoSport 2016 TDCI with 110000 on the pro. The periodic service per year is used to be 12K per year. But this around the reputed FNG in Chennai quoted 17k. Is this normal? I am not sure about the labor charges. Is it a bit overly quoted?

Re: Typical annual maintenance costs of your car

2017 Nissan Sunny

Twice a year, I replace the engine oil, oil filter, air filter and cabin filter. The materials cost came to ₹3000 and ₹650 was paid to the FNG for labour.
All four tyres were replaced in Dec 2022 at a cost of ₹20,300 and the battery in Jan 2023 at a cost of ₹3900.
The windscreen wiper blades were replaced in Jul 2023 at a cost of ₹1900.

2017 Honda WRV
The materials cost for replacing engine oil, oil filter, air filter and cabin filter came to ₹2500 and ₹650 was paid to the FNG for labour. This is done twice a year.
All four tyres were replaced in Sep 2022 at a cost of ₹31,100 and the battery in Oct 2023 at a cost of ₹4800.

Labour charges quoted as 5000. Quite steep for the work actually being done.
Choose another FNG this one is fleecing you.
