I think one way to get it is to ask for it before booking of the car. If they want to charge 400-500 Rs. for it, fine, that's how much books cost these days.

You have more leverage before you sign on the dotted line.

What do you think of this strategy?
Yeah.. but state very clearly that u want the OWNERS manual AND the dealer's service manual. Otherwise, they will quietly pass off the owners manual as the one you requested for

Anyone has a soft copy of the Baleno manual? Not that I am about to open the hood and tinker/DIY with the engine and stuff.. Just curious.

Its such a pity that I don't have pals like that. Maggie, next time make sure you introduce me to this friend of your ok? I might need some serious help from him.

I had one for Lancer GLXi 2000 that I owned some years back. Gave it to my garage wallah when I sold the car. Hope he still has. But it's a thick book.

Great idea!

I think somehow or another, this may have actually worked for Maruti at one point. Unfortunately, the Gouvernment foolishly sold off its stake in Maruti Udyog Ltd.

Looks like this is a very common problem. You can't have the first idea how to work on a car without the service manual.

I think this should be definitely added to the checklist of items when buying a new car (get the service manual in hand before you hand the check over for the car).

Also, for those who have service manuals, please share how you got them. I.e., dealer, company, or friend. The first two are great, the latter one doesn't work for the 99% of the population who doesn't happen to have a friend at the dealership of their car's make.

Oh it doesnt work for the private sector is it... didnt know that. Anyways makes sense otherwise the business secrets would be accessible to competitors.

Edit: Has anyone tried searching the internet using any file sharing utilities for these service manuals?? I just typed in Mitsubishi Lancer service manual and got a zip file that's 11MB in size. I dont know the contents yet coz it's downloading.

I have a workshop manual of the 1.6 engine. This is available for download as this engine is used internationally in many Fiat cars, not just Palio. But, I am searching for 1.2 manual which has eluded me so far. I got the 1.6 manual courtesy Dr. Sunil, who is a member of PUG and team-bhp too.

Any chance that may want to sell it? I would like to have a manual handy while getting my engine put back together.
