Swift Free Service & some rain driving questions

Just gave my Swift Vxi-ABS (Petrol) for the first free Service. They are going
to charge Rs.700 for it - I wonder if it wasn't free, how much would
it cost?

How much do regular oil changes at non-Maruti service stations cost?
(once the free services get over).

Also the chap told me that I should get the engine externals coated
(anti-rust, anti-corrosive & other protection) - I said I don't want
to do it. He said there are a lot of rats in Pune & they will chew away
everything. I still didn't take it - didn't ask him how much it costs.

Few times I drove in the rain last month, the biggest problems were
visibility through the rear window & visibility on the side mirrors.
I couldn't see anything either through the rear window (through the
rear mirror) & the side mirrors.

How much will it cost to get a Rear Wiper fitted on the back?
Also can a rear window defogger be fitted & how much will it cost?

What other cheaper solutions are there? Are there liquids I can spray
on the mirror & rear window, that will prevent water from sticking - how
much is the cost - I assume I will have to spray it each time I drive in
the rain.

i think in free services the only thing they dont charge is labour costs.

i dont think you need anti rust on your engine. i dont think rats can chew through steel and even if they can having anti rust wont make a diffrence. also ive never heard of anti rust for the engine. if anywhere it should be under the body.

Bought from Sai Service, Junglee Maharaj Road. My experience was
good, but I went through a friend who deals with them regularly on
a professional basis.

I searched Rain Driving and found this thread. So I am posting here.
Mods move it to suitable section if required.

My brother-in-law owns a Ford Figo which is just 4 months old. Bought on 01 July 2010.
While (and also After) driving in rain he complaints that the drops of water appear on the outer side of windscreen glass. It looks as if the windscreen glass has been wiped using wet cloth on outer side.

What is the problem?

1. Anti rust coating: If the coating is from a reputed maker like 3M and if they offers warranty on it, I say go for it. It'll help especially if you're in a coastal area. I've done it on my Swift and on my previous Xeta. I used Xeta for 5 years and there was no sign of rust anywhere in the under body. Don't know the relation between anti rust and rats, but may be the smell keeps them away? If that's true, then I will say its worth it.

2. Spray to remove water: In the MGA website they've listed a material which can be sprayed on windshield so that water doesn't stick on to it. I haven't used it, but was just sharing it.

Oil change will be upto 1000/- depending upon the car; 700/- for a Swift seems appropriate.

Here's the thing about free services, you don't pay ONLY for the labour costs : there is a rate card each car manufacturer has for labour charges eg. Oil change : Rs. 30/- (amount is just an example).

You WILL have to pay for whatever material that is used during the servicing. Furthermore, according to a recent Govt. policy, that will be taxed some 10.5% too (Govt. says despite being a free service, it is still a commodity and will be taxed).

Monsoon is almost over so effectiveness might not be much but anti-rust, anti-corrosion is highly recommended. Maruti has this blacking solution they apply to the under-belly of the car and the engine. It is mostly anti-rust and anti-corrosion.

There is another coating (teflon) for the body.
About the demister for the rear windshield and wiper, I think only a MASS will give you an exact figure.

Is it Sai Service, JM rd., Pune? (confused since you location is now Pune)
We bought my Zen there.

PS : If this is Sai Service, Pune you are talking about. We have bought 2 vehicles (800, Alto) from Sai Service, Phugewadi and 1 (Zen) from Sai Service, JM Rd.

Right from pre-delivery experience, to delivery, to servicing, I think the Phugewadi showroom is the best.
It is a huge campus so you have ample time and patience to discuss the car with the advisor. Also, I have found the service quality at Phugewadi much better than JM Rd.

Correction here.
The figure you mentioned is not 10.5% but its 10.3% and it Can be charged on the Labour Charges Only and not on Material Cost.

I think the wiper blades are not tight enough..
Just where the wiper blade is fixed to the shaft, there is a nut; it is concealed by a small cover..

You'd need to tighten that nut and then check if the wiper is cleaning the windshield properly..
If this doesn't solve the problem, check if the rubber lining on the wiper blade has come off anywhere..

Either of these should solve the problem.
