Thanks Dhar.

And I agree with you, the number of complaints on the HC O2 sensor seem to be far larger in number then other cars.... wonder if this is perculiar to the OHC's.

Meantime, Im scouting hard to find a good/reasonable dealer for a jap O2 sensor for around 3-4k... so I need help from all you esteemed members.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks alot Viper.

Impatience got the better of me and I went ahead and bought 1 today... and Im happy to say that my OHC is back to its glorious self!.... minus the yellow light...

It was touch and go... 1 moment the adamant yellow light was there and the next moment, it vanished. Takes less then a minute to change the O2.

Also got wobbling fixed... turns out the potholes in Mumbai pretty much messed-up the alignment and balancing. After the wheel balancing, she flys and how...

Thank you all for your timely help and support, truly appreciate it.

Cheers!

And its only the size of a ..say a tv cable plug or a car charger and it costs 16K!!!! The service guys reportedly says that it contains Platinum. If thats true, wonder, if platinum from the used O2 sensors can be sold.

Else where in the forum, fellow t=bhpian reported a case of bad smell from NHC. Does this have any relation to the o2 sensor?

@ yuvi,
can you please give me the honda part no. for the same?

I didnt pay 16k Dhar, there is no way im going to let Honda rip me... not even close, I got myself the sensor for 1800/- bucks flat.

lol@platinum, sounds like some over zealous salesmans imagination.. but then again, who would pay 16k? so sure. it has platinum, maybe even diamonds. hehe

Burning smell thread. O2 seems like a far cry, most likely some belt about to give way. my 2 cents

Part number, I will look it up and let you know.

Thanks and Cheers!

Hi Guys,

Does NHC also inherit this O2 sensor and it's failure rate?

And which make for that Rs1800 O2 sensor?

Glad to know your problem is solved yuv. Like others, my question to you? Did you buy the sensor from City Motors?

hi guys, 2 days back my uncle's cars yellow light went on. it's a 2003 OHC 1.3 exi. i guess it's the O2 sensor thats the culprit here too.

can anybody please tell me whats the purpose of an O2 sensor?
is there any problem/disadvantage if we don't rectify/replace it?
does anybody know where to buy an aftermarket O2 sensor in kerala?

I dont know the make.... n didnt care much of it.. as long as it worked.

I know i took a risk but it works so alls well that ends well.

No, not city motors... I got it from a friend, who says its an imported one.

I personally think its a taiwan make or something... it had a serial number on it though. Like i said, I didnt care much abt that... as long as yellow light gone and FE stable, im a happy camper!

Cheers...

had same problem. had posted a thread on this earlier...

i had gone for a similar after market option sourced from cochin at 3500

after fitting it also, i had the lights coming on ...then the mechanic checked the connections and tighted the same...

so even before buying the cheaper one, u cud ask them to chek all connections and also to clean the O2SENSOR head which if clogged could also trigger the light

The outer part is like a mesh and dirty.... so cleaning might work.

Loose connections is another story altogether and before changing the O2, I would suggest anyone to 1st check the connectors for any loose connections.

Sometimes, even after changing the O2... the light doesnt go.....
Possible Solution: Remove the battery terminals overnight, which will reset everything.

Loose fuel cap is another reason for the light.

cheers & all the best

I think the O2 sensor is connected to the ECU, thereby regulating the flow of Air & Fuel for providing the optimum mix... which is why when the O2 blows, the 1st thing u should notice is a drop in FE or worse still, stalling or starting problems because of more fuel or more air.

Ordinarily there is no urgent need to replace it ie. If u dont mind the drop in FE... but the problem is that the yellow light could mean alot of things like engine issues or fuel tank issues, etc.

So use your discretion and if your car is running normally... most likely all is normal and u need not replace the O2 immed.

Srry, no idea about Kerala aftermarket.

Disclaimer: Im no expert and my comments r based upon study and research I did during my recent O2 days :P

Best Of Luck.
