Hey All,

Dont know whether this is the right place for this post, but here goes...

I am a noob at driving and was wondering when does one just break and when does one use clutch + brake


I tried asking my driving instructor but he was of no use as he hardly spoke the language:)

I am a bit coz this will be my first ride and i dont want to spoil it with bad habits..

Just read through a post on shifting gears...the suggestions were fantastic

Ideally, you should use the brake only, and press the clutch prior to your engine stalling.

Since you're a beginner to driving, you might want to press the clutch when you reach speeds of 10 - 20 kmph, as you may not be familiar with exactly when your engine would stall.

press the brake alone and when its really slowed down depress the clutch so that the engine doesnt stall

i have this bad habbit of pressing clutch while braking which i cant seem to break

Please .. no clutch. Use only when the vehicle almost stops.

yes press the brake only,when you have sufficiently slowed down you depress the clutch to shift to lower gear or prevent a stall in case of a full stop brake.

if u use the clutch during braking you lose the benefit of engine braking and stopping distance increases.very important in case of climbing down ghats or slopes.

only use the break and when you are really slow and you fell the car will stall only then use the clutch

Yup only brakes unless you think that the engine might stall. As merve said you would be losing out of engine braking. Very crucial in case of emergencies and while coming down steep slopes. It reduces the load on brakes and will prevent them from getting overheated.
