hi guys,i was contemplating on getting the cylinder head of my zen ported, specifically the inlet valve seats.read on the net that polishing really doesnt do anything except deter the build up of carbon deposits on the cylinder head.also spoke to a mechanic at the maruti workshop(a well read and up to date mechanic) and his answer was, since the zen has an aluminium head it doesnt suffer from too many casting imperfections as a cast iron head so you wont see much of an increase or difference.how true are his words??

i know this topic has been discussed before in other threads but the reason for me to start a new thread was to ask you guys a question which has been running through my mind...
now,the tuner has asked me to give him the head for a week wherein he is going to send it to a turner who will carry out this job.i really dont know whether ill be able to see the job being done in front of my eyes,"how can i be sure that the porting has been carried out"???
what if he doesnt do anything and returns it to me saying that the job has been done, can i find out if it has been actually carried out?

you can. the finish on an intake or exhaust port would look very different once you take a grinding wheel to it. Typically you can see that the dotted appearance has changed to a smoother wavier pattern with a pseudo-polished appearance.

Look at the following pics to get an idea:
