Waiting for Mahindra's new video showing an XUV7OO with two real elephants standing on top of the sunroof. Last time Scorpio-n was under a waterfall for a sunroof issue.
Push the dealer to get you what is required, a replacement! If they have to get it through the warranty claim, it might be very stringent, time consuming too and the kind of antics I have seen and heard about mahindra dealers which they do, I am happy that the company has stringent policies in place for approving warranty claims!
You can still ask the SC to get you coupons/free services in the name of goodwill if you are forced to take the insurance route to compensate the premium damage.
Think objectively from everyone's perspective about the damage that has happened unfortunately, even if you are not cheating the system other people don't blink an eye before taking advantage of the situations. (I know someone who has swapped the hood in dealership, because there was a scratch found on the xuv700's hood and the PDI by the owner was denied and to satisfy the good relations/pressure put by this knowledgeable owner, another normal man's hard earned money was burnt! )
It is really sad to see the sunroof shattered of a new vehicle worth 30 Lacs. People don't expect that happening to their cars but it does happen sometimes. And those who experience it are the unfortunate ones.
Pretty much like a faulty engine in a car which you recently bought. But in that cases it is easier to get a replacement since there are less chances of tampering. However in the case of a shattered glass it difficult to find the fault or 'whose fault' to be more precise.
I see the point of senior BHPians towards life's philosophy and moving ahead with insurance.
But from the eyes of someone who bought a dream car saving every penny is simply painful and the question is why did it happen to me? Moving on will come in time but its not a switch you can flip.
Here is what I think.
1. Sunroofs/Moonroofs are not bullet proof and these cases are happening now and then. Maybe an accident or manufacturing defect. No one wants that to happen to their car. But one should buy knowing that there is a possibility. It is more of a calculated risk one should take to enjoy the beauty or earn satisfaction of your family or sometimes yourself. They look really cool until something like this happens.
2. Insurance is your fail safe if the manufacture denies everything and doesn't do anything about it. Only hope it doesn't rain while it happen or the damages will be more.

Can't believe the number of members here asking the OP to remain calm and claim insurance. I can't understand why so many members here today seem to support manufacturers and service centers (a lot of them happen to be new members too).
Not pointing fingers at people who are actually trying to be positive and asking the OP to put a bad experience behind him, but I can notice a marked shift in tone towards fellow members issues on the forum.
If an accident happens on the road, we need to claim insurance. But if an accident happens inside the Service center due to the negligence of service personnel, then in India you are again forced claim your own insurance. Now, we have to claim insurance for what could be a manufacturing defect on the basis of a 2 mins diagnosis.
Seems like people have found a way to escape any increase in their premiums from claims which I don't know about. |
I agree. While it is the more practical and less heartburn way out to accept it, claim insurance and move on, the responses often vary depending on the manufacturer. Some are bashed for the smallest issue, whether from the manufacturer or the service centre or the dealership, others get a huge leeway and possible explanations.

Really. Not nit-picking but we should avoid making sweeping statements and painting colours to the advice and opinions. I might be wrong, but the newest member was 2 years old and oldest member was the founder of the forum. Offering solution need not be only bashing the manufacturers, it should give peace of mind to the sufferer too. I apologise in advance if I have crossed any lines. |
Might be a controversial statement to make, but I see a clear distinction between reactions to such incidents involving M&M vs say a Skoda or Tata. Got this feeling while going through reactions on Scorpio waterfall issue which is reinforced now.
Same thing happened with my MG ZS EV, it just shattered overnight. The service centre was adamant that its not a manufacturing defect. I had to claim it under insurance. I feel for you
It is disheartening to see a new car's sunroof being damaged in this manner. Despite this, as mentioned by GTO, there is no use in dwelling on the incident - we must instead focus on claiming insurance. To ease your concerns, the most effective course of action would be to escalate the issue and speak with the Mahindra Area service head (I am familiar with who this is in Kerala). They will provide reassurance that they will thoroughly investigate and address any issues in their upcoming releases.
