Hi Gurus, Can I take newly bought Fusion for a drive of 260 KM with in 5 days from delivery. Thanks for your advice.

Why not? 260 kms in car terms is not much. However you need to take a few cautions. Do not over exert your car. Which basically means do not rev it too high. Also, on highways we tend to drive for long distances without much variations in speed. For a new car that can be a problem. Ensure that you do not drive at the same RPM continuously for too long.

5 days old car can be a bit tricky if you get unlucky. Not to frighten you but any car may turn out problematic. This you get to know, typically speaking, after a week's driving. Now god forbid but if it breaks down in a no man's land it can be a real bother for you. Keep that in mind.

take it for a 1000km drive if you wish too, just don't take it too fast. keep the engine rpm below 3k & you will be fine.

Yup, couldn't agree more on this, and additionally take some good breaks in between and don't drive continuously..

As Zappo mentioned, take special note of the need to vary RPMs - if you're driving on a highway, you'll tend to cruise at a particular RPM - try and vary this.

Don't stomp on the gas at any time, perform your overtakes smoothly and you'll ensure your RPMs stay in the safe range (see E_L's post).

Before setting out on your long trip, do a couple of short runs locally to ensure that you're familiar with your car and its basic handling. This will also ensure that you might catch any niggling problems.

Also, ensure that you take the Ford breakdown service number, as well as the Ford numbers for your starting and destination points.

as zappo said i think its important to expose a new engine to differnt ranges of rpm.. that might not happen on a long drive

and yes dont rev hard on a new engine :)

I suggest please read the booklet the night when u bring the car home... read it thoroughly and act accordingly....
Distances doesnt really matter as long as u follow the rules....
