As per my knowledge ,
The VVTECH , VGIS , .. are the engine technologies which helps in improving FE + pickup etc for the cars. These kind of technologies are there from long time and they are also evolving with getting new and new enhancements in them.
Majority of the cars outside India have these kind of engines on even very basic models.
Though we are getting test of such kind of engines in india , those are present only above 6.5 - 7 lkh segement ( aveo is the cheapest in my knowledge )
Why can't they put such kind of technologies even for M800 which will finally help everybody?
Question is how much exactly costs for manufacture to make variable valve technology engine than the normal one?
Means are they not putting it because of the cost or is there any other reason ?
Is there any norm after which such kind of engines will be mandate?
Remember MPFI engines were ad factor at one point of time , but now they are standard for all the cars after Euro 3 norms . Can the same thing happen to variable valve tech. after euro 4 norms?
mainly because of the cost.
Sometimes all it takes is a different head. Whats pathetic, is that manufacturers here dont even wish to have those as a option, given that offering on the standard car can be difficult in terms of keeping costs down.
Its a question of corporate culture. Toyota is using Vvt and 4 valves per cyl on 100% on its engines. Honda was until the L-series came out. BMW is 100% Valvetronic except for M engines.

Honda also sold the D series in India without Vtec.
Every new technology is about cost only unless enforced by the law, for which manufacturers have no choice.
Picture this, how much an audio CD costed in mid 90's Rs 350 for regional and Rs 550 for English audio CD's and how much do these cost now ????
Even the desktop CD-Writers costed around 25K then.

Cost. And the fact that the 800 engine is over 2 decades old! Forget VVti, Maruti didnt even go the fuel injection way until the regulations forced them to.

Yup that's the point . Question is is there any regulation which can enforce car makers to put such kind of engines in all the cars?
If euro 4 is the answer then we have to wait till 2010 :Frustrati
