I just got my Baleno through it's 20,000 km service. The dealer has done the following jobs that I had never heard of before:

1. engine oil additive - part No. COO1-MOA-110 cost Rs 424.88
2. Throttle body cleaner - part no COO1-AISC-206, cost Rs 674.66
3. Fuel Injector system cleaner - part No. COO!-FISC-210, cost Rs 674.66 plus labour Rs 600/-
4. engine decarbonising, cost Rs 600/-

Have I been taken for a ride, or is this normal? Any feedback from Baleno veterans welcome.

Huh?Were you also billed for engine oil?

2. Throttle body cleaner - part no COO1-AISC-206, cost Rs 674.66
Have not heard of a throttle body 'cleaner' as such but labour usually costs RS200

3. Fuel Injector system cleaner - part No. COO!-FISC-210, cost Rs 674.66 plus labour Rs 600/
There is no maruti approved fuel additive/cleaner,you should have been asked before the work was done
4. engine decarbonising, cost Rs 600/-
Ok

My thoughts in bold.{20 characters}

These are not compulsory, but the dealer has done them without your permission, evidently. There is such a thing as carburettor/throttle body cleaning spray. And yes, the jobs will make a difference to your car.

None of them except decarbonising are MUL recommended treatments. If they have not been mentioned in your service manual, they are optional. In which case they need to ask you before they carry it out.

600 bucks will buy you a whole can of TB cleaner, I think. And I don't think you'd use up one full can.

@binz, v1p3r, ported head, thanks.

I was told that these jobs are recommended to be done, so in a sense my permission was taken. What i was not told was the full extent of their cost, and that they are optional in any way.
Binz, yes I was charged also for mobil super oil 3.2 litres apart from the additive.
I am feeling cheated by the labour cost of the F. I. cleaner application in particular.
has anyone got these things done, and does it make a difference?

It will certainly make a difference to the way the car it running. Should check out the car with a drive or check the FE to get a clearer pic. No idea about costs.

Update.
Have driven about 100 km, 50% on highway. The engine feels much smoother, more silent.
I am not so sure about acceleration, as I feel the car does not pull as strongly as before. It may be due to ECU re-mapping as the battery was disconnected for about 15 minutes for cleaning ( I had to reprogramme the radio, that's how I came to know).

Filcord where did you give the car for the service?

None of these where done during my 20K service. Although the service engineer did once mention decarb, but ultimately did not do it due to lack of time (I was hurrying him). However, I think he had quoted 1400 for decarb :Shockked: .

I seem to have misplaced my 20K service bill. However I remember him saying that he would replace only what needed to be replaced. I insisted on all fluid replacement though. I think the following were changed:

Replaced spark plugs
Replaced engine oil
Replaced oil filter
Replaced air filter
Replaced coolant
Replaced gear oil
Replaced brake oil
Replaced wiper blades

Was charged around 3500.

Would know in a month or so, when my car would be due for the 20K service. Thanks for the heads up, filcord - I would definitely not want them adding any additives and stuff OR do stuff that MUL does not recommend in the first place.

I had all the above except the air filter, brake fluid and wipers.
Air cleaner was replaced by myself at 15,000 km as I prefer to do so at shorter intervals and it's a simple drop-in job.
Brake fluid change is required at 20K? must check this in the owner's manual.
Wiper blades are doing fine, so no problem there.
My total cost was 5806/-, out of which 2900/- was these "recommended" jobs I listed.

1: taken for ride
2: taken for ride, its a simple spray job or manual labor no way 675 bucks!!
3: can accept assuming they were using an automatic machine
4: can accept but generally point 3 will cover point 4

One important question, was this quoted in your estimate when you gave the car for service??

May not be. As I said earlier, I insisted on them changing all fluids, required or not.

The new Syndicate wiper blades are not much of an improvement. Will have to try out something else. Maybe Roots/Bosch.
