Team-BHP - Genuine Spares Availability in open market

Where do I start and how? Day before yesterday while leaving for home
after a tough day discovered that my truck's rear left wheel was
flat. Changed the punctured wheel with the spare and was able to do
in a reasonable time. Drove home with a promise that the first thing
the next morning was to fix the flat.

As promised to self, the first thing in the morning found me in front
of my regular tyre shop. A little flash back here; inspite of some
intuition and gut feeling, I fixed the flat tyre where the stepney is
regularly fixed, though I could have put the same in the boot.

Now this guy at the tyre shop set about his job and removed the flat
tyre from underneath the truck; instead of lowering it down with the
help of the wheel spanner he used the high air pressure gun. I was
apprehensive. The gun naturally was set to tighten i.e anti-clockwise
movement while it had to be lowered in a clockwise movement. He
applied the gun, the ratchet slipped and then he changed the setting
and lowered the tyre. So far so good, but the damge was already done.
After fixing the tube and balancing the wheel he jacked up the truck
and removed the stepney, put this wheel. Now was the time to put the
stepney back in its place.

This time I told him to use the wheel spanner and raise the stepney,
instead he said by using the gun it would be faster. When he started
the process the tyre would not raise and a loud 'kataak, kataak'
sound emanated as if the ratchet was engaging and slipping.
Ultimately the stepney was loaded in the boot and somehow with the
help of the spanner the stepney winch was raised. The entire day
ruined thinking about this mishap.

Today morning went to my garage and showed it to my mechanic.
Verdict - unit damaged and needed to be replaced. Now this was not to
be found in any of the spare parts shops. So with a boy from the
garage went to the Sterling workshop in Sector-17, Gurgaon. I was
delighted to find the spare there but was royally told that counter-
sales are not permitted. After pleadings fell on deaf ears, I gave in
to their stand of having it installed there at Sterling. The stepney
winch was installed in 20 mins. The cost:

Stepney winch - Rs. 2052/- MRP but billed for Rs. 1823.11/-
Labour (for screwing in 5 nuts) - Rs. 350/-
Vat @ 12.5 % - Rs. 227.89/-
Service Tax - Rs. 43.26/-

Total - Rs. 2444/-

I still am trying to get over the shock..!!
