Finding the VIN & manufacturing date/year on Indian cars

Hi Wildon,

I will be buying a Figo in next fortnight.

Please tell me what to check in the VIN to ensure that it's a 2011 manufactured vehicle?

For ford:- Just check if the 11th character is B. Means its a 2011 manufacture model. The month should be Jan anyway

11th Character represents Year
12th Character represents Month.

Hey Wildon. One more doubt. My sister plans to buy this Linea. The car was sent to Dealer by FIAT 10 days back. Is it ok to buy this car?

If it's a 2011 model car, when is it actually manufactured?

^^ if its a 2011 model/manufactured car the same should reflect in the VIN too. The given VIN is certainly not of a 2011 car.

If you are not particular about the 2011 model car you can go ahead after doing a thorough inspection and a great bargain for discounts.

Most of the 2011 cars are starts manufacturing in the month of December 2010 itself.

Hey thats the first 2011 Fiat on the forum.

AMZ= January 2011 ( As i have not seen the MZ codes from Fiat yet)

I had my doubts about the dealer claim that they have the 2011 car despatched from the factory this week.

Thanks for the VIN details. I have booked a 2010 Fiat GP. The dealer called in morning and confirmed its a Nov 2010 make and gave me this 23037LNZ. can anything be decoded from this? they said i will get all other details on Monday when i perform the PDI. Where on the car should i look for VIN details?

Going by the link provided by Wildon (link of Paddleshifter), your Punto is Nov 2010 model.

Thanks bro. So that means the dealer wasn't bluffing. The car will reach dealer stock yard this weekend and I shall get to inspect the same on monday. If alls in place I shall have the car with me by 3rd feb.
