Thanks Wildon ! Found it! It was embossed in the metal around the middle of the area just under the windshield.
It states G7, SOi guess my car is from July 07.
Good thing. I bought it on Aug 1. So, guess i got a fresh piece.

I had booked my Ford Fiesta 1.6S at Harpreet Ford, Gurgaon and am awaiting delivery in last week of this month. I asked the Sales Consultant about the VIN. He said he can provide me that Number only when the vehicle goes into transit. I wanted to confirm this.

Other than this, I wanted to know if Chassis No. is same as VIN?

Simply tell me which all "Numbers" should I get from my Sales Consultant and post here so that the prodigies here could decode my vehicle's details. Engine no., Chassis No., Form 22? What is all this?

Hi Abhi,

Thats Ok, normally the VIN no is alloted when the dealer gets the list of vehicles to be delivered to him from the factory upon despatch or if it already availabe in the dealer's stock yard.

The chassis no and the VIN are the same. The chassis no is etched on the inside in the engine bay area just below the bonnet. The VIN is located near the right side driver seat below the carpet where there is a flap to open and see the VIN. One caution though cross verify the VIN no physically with the one alloted to you.

It is imp to remember the last 7 digits of the VIN which denote the year and month of manufacture followed by the serial no. For eg in my Fiesta is says 9KXXXXX which means its a 2009 manufactured (9), Oct month (K) and XXXXX is serial no. Hope this helps.

^^ A typical Ford Vehicle VIN contains 17 Characters starting from MAJ on which 11th and 12th characters represents YEAR and MONTH respectively.

For e.g if your 11th and 12th characters are A and M you can decode this as

A= 2010
M= July

Ford changes its Monthly code on yearly basis. I'm attaching the 2010 monthly codes here.
