Problem with Vtec idling...varying RPM. EDIT : Solved!

This had happened about two months back, but rectified itself automatically. However, since this morning, the problem has resurfaced.

At idling, the RPM keeps on shooting between 800 - 1500 rpm by itself. The car has completed around 52,000 kms and most of you know the minimal mods I have put on it. I didnt want to take a chance so just parked her back in the garage.

Whats up?

Is this happening only with the A/C on?

Sounds like the air intake sensors are dirty. Honda will say replace and 16k whereas the part costs a lot less. You might get away with getting them cleaned for the short term

I'm least knowledgeable here to comment but as Ishan says, you may need to check your vacuum idle switch for AC. Also check if accelerator cable getting stuck.

@ irags : Driver just checked. Problem is there even without air-con.

@ Rudra : No problem with accelerator cable.

Is the check light coming on?

Chk the O2 sensor, try to get a replacement from another car to test if possible. If thats okay then check MAP sensor - vacuum connection from manifold to sensor, broken/shorted wires, etc.

I think thats something to do with KnN, i have noticed with KnN the car revvs automatically sometimes, maybe drawing in more air.

I'm new to OHC.
Every morning when I start my OHC 1.3Exi , my car RPM needle raises till 1,300RPM and after 1 min or so it comes down to 750 -800 Rpm mark.
Is this normal ?

check air leaks as well as air filter > clean the sensors (throttle body and O 2) > then move on to injector cleaning

Used to have this problem on a regular basis on my Santro. The solution for me was to change the petrol pump after removing the old petrol that was in the tank. Have been poring petrol from select pumps and ever since have not had this problem. Well, might not be the remedy but just my experience.

Even I am having the exact same problem and added to that my engine goes off everytime the needle comes below 1000 rpm. My car will be going in tomorrow to rectify this idling issue. Will keep this thread updated on what was carried on.

But by the looks of it could it be:
1. IAC valve malfunction?
2. TPS malfunction?
3. Vacuum leak?
4. Cam position sensor malfunction?

Karthik, in my case there is no check light & O2 sensor seems to be working fine. Because when I run with the O2 sensor disconnected I get really bad FE. And it betters by a lot when I connect it back.
