Only way for sure is to get the error codes read, with a make/model capability OBD reader. Preferably not just a cheap generic reader.
There are two possibilities. You will find one or more codes or none. In the latter case, make absolutely sure you are using the correct reader with the correct capabilllity! Not all reader will read all manufacturer codes. If there really wasn't a code, it was just a glitch. Happens sometimes.
You can follow up on the codes. If nothing is wrong you can just do a code reset/erase and that is most likely to solve the problem and the check engine light will be out.
If it does come back on after a while, there is some intermittent problem. Which can be a real PITA to trouble shoot. Intermittent problems are usually caused by very small electrical problems. E.g. A wire chuffed and occasionally touching ground. A connector not seated properly. A bit of oxidation here and there.
The one very basic thing you must always do is check the battery health and battery connections for oxidation. Modern car electronics start acting up when the voltage drops. Either from a poor battery or poor electrical connections.
Good luck, let us know what you find
