Re: XUV300 breakdown, accident at service center | Advice needed

Since we have the third party Insurance also applicable on 2 wheelers, why are they not pursuing the idiot who crashed into the car and caused the damages in the first place?

I am sure they would have claimed some compensation from the bike rider, since this looks like major impact, to have damaged the tire, rather than a hit and run.

Now to put icing on the cake, they are asking you to
  1. Claim insurance and create a revenue opportunity for themselves, as pointed out by T-Bhpian Ashivas

It costs the dealership peanuts to repair such damage. They pay labour to the tune of under INR 700 per day to the body shop guys. A replacement bumper too costs them very little. They will make a profit on this if you claim insurance (small wonder they have been transparent). For all you know, this may be a scam.

Get a repair estimate from them first, lets see how much they pad it.
  2. Forego your NCB (which does not amount to much now-a-days)

I just wish we had better consumer protection laws in India, where service providers were actually mindful of the impact they are having on customer sentiment...

Update: Now service center is of the opinion that when the car is out of premises, for test drives, the service center cannot take responsibility for the accident. Its owners responsibility and its mentioned in the terms and conditions. Availing insurance is the only way ahead. Just when I thought that I had came across a good service center, this is the reply I get. The total cost of repairs is around 32k. We have another thread where the discussion about benefits of NCB are being discussed and I dont think I will miss out a lot. Will keep posted

Just to stick it to them, take it to another service center to get it fixed.
So to summarise: They mess up and wreck a customer's car, and they get rewarded with a profit (body shop repairs are how most dealerships stay afloat, their high margins compensate for all the other low margin stuff)?

Contact your insurance service provider and let them know what happened and that you are not convinced that what they are forcing you to do is fair. The dealership should be having their own insurance which ought to cover this whether or not it happened inside or outside their premises because at the end of the day it was in their possession.

Your dealer is trying to profit off an incident that happened on their watch. Do what's best for your car and situation (document everything in writing), and once you have your car back, ensure you report the whole thing to M&M.

I was pleasantly surprised by the initial posts and as expected the service centre is playing up. Did they shared you any pictures of the bike that crashed taken at accident spot?

Anyway, please claim insurance and ask the dealership to do your insurance renewal next year with their in house discounts and bear the NCB. Else, insurer will jack up the premium since there is a claim apart from loss of NCB.
