Seeking advice on Flickering Headlights (Fortuner)

Hello everyone, I’m looking for opinions from Team-BHP regarding an issue with my Fortuner’s headlights. I own a 2015 Toyota Fortuner, a completely stock vehicle. Recently, I replaced both headlight assemblies, one was broken, and I decided to change both for uniformity.

After installing the new units, I noticed that the projector headlights flicker/vibrate when driving over rough or uneven roads and when the vehicle jerks while releasing the clutch. However, they remain stable when idling or driving on smooth roads. Interestingly, this issue only affects the projector lamps, the high beams work fine.

I took the vehicle to Toyota service, but they couldn’t pinpoint the problem. They compared my car with other Fortuners and claimed that this behavior is normal. However, I didn’t expect such a quality issue from Toyota.

Is this a common problem? Has anyone else experienced the same issue? I’m considering raising a complaint with Toyota officials and would appreciate any insights or suggestions.

Re: Seeking advice on Flickering Headlights (Fortuner)

Most likely it is a contact problem, when you idle the vehicle, look near the headlight assembly, and rapidly shake the harness connecting it, if at all it flickers, then harness is not fit properly, if not, you may have a loose contact elsewhere in the same harness. Do check the bulb contacts as well, if fit properly and inspect the plugs. This is not a common problem in any Fortuner, it is just that they could not diagnose it, or rather did not want to diagnose it.

Happy Motoring!
