Ford Ikon Flair - Gear Shift & Clutch hard

Hi,

I just bought a ford ikon flair from my bro. It has run around 12700 kms and was in excellent condition. Previously i owned a WagonR LXi.

Now if I compare the two vehicles, the gear shift and clutch seems to be smooth in WagonR compared to Ikon. In Ikon, I have to apply more pressure to shift the gears and the clutch. Also during idling, the rpm in ikon is set to 1000 rpm.

Now my question is this a normal phenomenon in Ikon or I have to do some modifications on the vehicle. advice.

Ikon gear shift is same as in Swift or Accent I see, at times yes you will certainly feel that its hard .Ikon has rod shift ,as it is not cable shift unlike in fusion or fiesta which delivers much smooth gear shift operation.

In any case do get it checked with ford workshop ...

Hello! I have an Ikon 1.6. At times I also feel the clutch hard. I think its because of hydraulic clutch (not sure, read somewhere)..

But the gearshift sometimes is butter smooth and sometimes hard like frozen butter ..

Like how mentioned above, ask the Ford people to do a checkup on both the clutch and the gearshift.

The idling rpm in the 1.6 is between 840-870 when the a/c is off and 950-970 when the a/c is on.

The clutch on the Ikon is hydraulic, and i havent felt is as hard.
Normally, gear shifts on the Ikon are very smooth, and after the Wagon R, you should have felt this !

Give it some time, maybe your still getting used to the new car.
Normal idling RPM after the car has run a bit is below 1000. Till it warms up, a higher RPM is not uncommon.

Well, all to put the point Ikon's gear shift is certainly hard compared few other cars in non hatch or hatach in its segment.

The point as i mentioned is differenec in rod shift to cable shift.

As I have graduated from Wagon R to Ikon may be i'am feeling the hardness in shifting gears/clutch. Maybe I will get used to this in few days time.........

Oiling the linkages might help.
