Hello everyone! Glad to share another modification post for my Ford EcoSport.

Actually, I completed this upgrade more than a year ago, but I hadn’t really found time to write down a post and share it here before moving on to Sync 5.

Yes, You are hearing right! I’m now working with the Sync 5 system currently, which is based on Android Automotive OS. It’s debuting in some Lincoln models starting in 2024, and appears in the Expedition and Explorer lineups from 2024-25. I’ll give you all a quick glimpse of that towards the end of this post.

Following my Sync 3 software modifications and the previous upgrade of Sync 4 on an 8-inch screen from existing Sync 3, this latest Sync 4 upgrade to the 13.2-inch screen wasn’t straightforward, for several reasons.

1. It’s a 13.2-inch screen, so mounting the display securely while maintaining an elegant look is challenging, especially with the restriction of not making any single changes to the existing dashboard.
2. Push start switch relocation as the screen hides it somewhat.
3. AC control unit change to accommodated the new audio control panel.
4. As usual, I’ve also carried out my own software customizations, such as enabling the built-in maps for India, B&O audio settings, ADAS features, and blind spot monitoring.

Not to forget: I’ve also carried out conversions from Fly Audio to various Sync versions in the past, so I can confirm that this upgrade is absolutely possible for facelift EcoSport models originally equipped with Fly Audio systems. I have done the upgrade to some fellow owners in owners groups.

For this upgrade mainly we need below parts
1. Sync4 12 inch variant Nav unit.
2. 13.2 inch display from Lincoln/focus/Kuga
3. Audio control panel
4. Newer AC control Unit to support on screen AC control
5. Newer USB Hub
6. display connector, and other connectors for integration.
7. and Panels and mounts for clean look.
8. and support OBD tools for configuring the module such as forscan.

Currently ford has improved its security, so flashing and converting the Navi region from one region to another is not possible for public users.

On top of these modifications, I’ve also integrated wireless charging. As far as I know, this is the only EcoSport in the world equipped with so many features carried over from other Ford platforms.
I’m still working on adding the latest and greatest features from the 2024–2025 lineups, including the new Sync 5 system, Mobileye EyeQ4-based Level 2 ADAS, and a proper 360-degree parking visualization system.

Having already added the following features on the technology front, I can confidently say that the EcoSport Facelift with its timeless design continues to make a remarkable presence throughout its lifetime. And most importantly, all upgrades are fully OEM with not a single aftermarket part involved.

1. Level2 ADAS
2. 12 channel parking sensors.
3. Flank Guard.
4. Sync4 13.2 infotainment system with built in india maps and wireless AA,ACP.
5. Full Digital instrument cluster (Latest 2024).
6. Bang & Olufsen Audio system 10speakers.
7. Wireless charger.
8. Remote Start.
9. Blindspot system and Lane change assist.
10. Rear cross traffic Alert.
11. Fast Wireless charger.
12. Fully integrated sharkfin antenna.
13. Telematic unit to re-enable fordpass and hotspot modem.
14. Rear Disc Brake.
15. ST line steering wheel.
16. Drive modes.
17. Global window open and close and one touch all door power window.
18. ST illuminated Sill plates.
19 . Dual Type-C charging ports
Last but not the least
20. The Strom Variant Imported Grill and kid plate and bumper.

So, considering all the upgrades and features, my car can now technically compete with vehicles in the ₹20 lakh segment currently on the market. With that in mind, I have no plans to replace it for at least another 10 years, and I’ll keep exploring new possibilities and upgrades wherever I can.

Here are some ongoing projects I’m currently working on—I've already sourced all the required parts.

1. Full LED Headlight with Adaptive drive beam Assisted by Latest ADAS system.
2. Full 360 degree parking system.
3. Sync5 infotainment system with maps on instrument cluster.

I am in Total Awe, so many additions can't say modifications as all are OEM items. This vehicle is a lifetime keeper and you are the worthy master !

I am just few kms away from you and not able to visit you even once all these years, atleast will visit you for seeing this re-engineered masterpiece

Looks very nice. I have a 2020 AT and am looking to figure out an upgrade from flyaudio to something that has androidauto/carplay. What would be the options available?

Awesome and amazed with your passion for ensuring vehicle is upto date in terms of features and comfort. Just completed a 1000 kms trip on my ES and i am finding it difficult to find a suitable replacement with such a solid build quality. Other day, had parked the car below a coconut tree, unfortunately there was heavy wind and one coconut fell on my bonnet and just has a small dent. If it was a Maruti it would have ended up totalling the car, just for jokes, I know I am exaggerating.

Since you are in Chennai, would definitely want to see your mods in person.

Never thought Ecosport platform could support these many OEM retrofits. This is a certified OEM+ car! Such a masterpiece.

I have done lot of studies and spend huge efforts to make it compatible in a way that OEM integrates it. One rule for me is "always OEM" for full vehicle integration and safety.

Quick correction - it is not called as Sync5 rather "Digital Experience".
How do I know? - I also manage development for the same Android Digital Experience projects and the previous generation Sync4.

One another thing - it might not be ok for putting up the hardware snapshot (of the Digital Exp module) though it is released in the market. Better check this for confidentiality.

Hi Thank you for your words. By the way i just wrote Sync5 instead of Digital Experience for other's understanding to follow from Sync4. I will mention the correct name if I happen to integrate and share a post regarding this.

The vehicles are already in sales from last year, the part is already available to purchase from scrap vehicles such as Lincoln and Explorer and the wiring diagram can also be purchased from Ford service websites. Even the pictures of this module was posted in US forums as well So I dont think we have confidentiality here.

I forgot to mention that the ford service website still call this module as Sync, and digital experience in my point of view is not just belong this one module.

@jhenu - words won't do justice to what you have done with your car! It's truly one of a kind. I know associating a price to things we are passionate about or love is off-putting but the curious mind of mine is just left wondering, whether you can share approx. costs involved for each of the modifications? I also understand that each of these modifications require something much more than just money! All the best for your ongoing/future updates.

Can I just say how awe-inspiring all these modifications are? I just can't imagine the amount of research & late-night digging that went into making thses changes happen to your Ecosport! This is genuinely impressive!

I don't think any other dead brands in Indian automotive markey has loyal customers like Ford has; not GM, not Nissan, not Mistubishi (perhaps Fiat-heads come close).

ford service website still call this module as Sync, and digital experience in my point of view is not just belong this one module.

Perhaps yes but it is marketed as Digital Experience. The Digital Experience includes the Connectivity suite, GAS, Updates, Widgets, Apps from play store, App screen casting, video games etc., and much more. however this is the hardware that is behind all of that.

One word I can correlate is the famous reel meme "Technologiya."

Fellow 2016 Ford Figo Titanium owner on this side. Can we upgrade the Bluetooth to some of the latest versions? Sometimes it acts weirdly.
