Blocked Headers + sparkplug misfiring??

Hello everyone!
Since few days, I had observed some differences in my car..given below:
  • I felt acceleration had decreased
  • There was more throttle lag (i.e. time between pressing accelerator and engine's response)
  • Fuel consumption appeared to be more
  • Cranking up the car takes a longer time than before.. Takes a longer time than usual to start even if the car is in its optimal temperature. (It looks & sounds like a diesel engine starting)

From my observation I feel something is wrong with the headers; I think one of the headers is blocked.

And i think the sparkplugs are not firing up correctly! Misfiring? Flooded?

I still can't find any error code through SG!

I refueled the tank today and got 16.9 L/100 km (5.9 km/L) No hard driving was done.

From my observation am I correct?

Thanks,
cya

5.9 kmpl ? Speaking for myself, I would have gotten out of the car and played in heavy traffic.

But, there's a higher possibility of a failed sparkplug rather than the header getting blocked (with what?).

How would you play in the traffic?

No idea if its a failed sparkplug! I don't know with what the header got blocked. But I've heard of blocked headers cases before.

Thanks

You haven't mentioned which car.

Have you checked the air filter ?.

Try NGK or Denso iridium plugs.

Haven't heard of blocked headers before.

Regards
Ravi.

Does the car jerk when you try to accelerate? If so could be due to ignition problem, clogged injectors, fuel pump malfunction. I think your "check engine" light should come on in case of misfiring.

If there is no jerking then maybe choked fuel filter (due to adulterated fuel?).

Its a Ford Ikon 1.6. It's a K&N airfilter. Shouldn't be a problem. Don't want to upgrade to performance plugs.

I have heard of blocked headers before. This is the 3rd time, only thing on my car. The first 2 cars I heard of blocked headers was on a Accent 1.6 and a Tucson 2.0

Yes the car jerks when I accelerate like before, but its increased. Till now no error code through SG and Ford Ikon doesn't have a ''check engine'' light.

I think the fuel pump should also be at fault?

The place I refuel at is a good place. Adulterated fuel should be out of the question.

Shall be leaving the car for service soon at Ford. Ill see what they have to say about this.

In bangalore traffic, actually you could just manage that, maybe thats what maggie was telling you.

I agree with iridium, it could just be your air filter. clean it or replace it.

If it is a clogged air filter, we have a rich mixture and I think the car should still start easily upon cranking. The fact that it takes a long time to start and does not respond immediately upon pressing accelerator makes me suspect some blockage in the fuel flow or an ignition problem.

@Absar, I think a failing fuel pump is one of the possbilities. The Ford service guys should be able to sort out the issue.

Rather than your exhaust system being blocked, it could be that it is actually a little too open > ie > check that the catalytic converter / muffler have not been damaged or are no rusted and crumbling apart. Also check that all the parts of the exhaust system are bolted on / together well.

Other than that, it might be an ignition issue / one of the plugs not firing ?

Hello! The car was given for service! The problem was told to Ford, they said its possible that one of the headers is blocked, and one or more spark plugs aren't functioning properly.

It was observed that the 4th header was blocked, and one spark plug was found to be dead, and another not functioning properly.

So two sparkplugs were replaced and the headers cleaned. Now the car is good! Starts up and runs properly now

Thanks for your help everyone!

P.s.: MODS, if required, close this thread now since my problem is solved!

With clogged air filter you wont have a rich mixture, your mix will be in proportion to the air sucked in
