I dunno if this the right place, but still I'll go ahead with my questions !

Its been Exactly ONE year since I serviced my Indica petrol. Now that I have driven just 5k kms in a year,I may give it for a service this month.
I have to change the Engine oil , Last time the guy used Veedol Engine Oil and he told its the best and I'm sure that its not the best.Which OIL do u guys recommend ?(of course not Synthetic, coz I'm planning to go Synthetic after 25k).
Last time I changed the Gear box oil completely, shud I do it again?
Same with the Coolant, shud I change it completely ?
Brake Fluid ? PS oil ???
I see that my car emits Smoke now ! What shud I do ? Clean the Air Filter or change it ?
And what else shud I do ? Wheel Allignment ? What else ? Pls throw some light!

Off late I see a drop in mileage...

PS - I won't be doin it from Tata Service Center.

I have a problem starting my Indica when the Engine is cold. When i start the car, it starts for while (a couple of seconds) the the engine dies. Then the engine starts only when the accelerator is pressed. Would appreciate if someone could help me out.

One or two glow plugs are gone, get them checked.
Most probably its one of the plugs.
I think you would also see lot of black smoke early morning, right?

To confirm this, before starting put hot water (around 70 degrees straight out of the geyser) on the injector area, then start and see if you get same issue.

I think around 300rs for Mico bosch, don't remember the exact amount. Do the water test first to determine its really the glow plugs and not something else

Hi sid_meyer,

> How much would a glow plug for Indica cost?

Oct 2007: Rs 363 each. Would not have changed much. OEM is BERU, I think.

To check if glow plug is working, see the first part of the following message:

Yahoo! Groups

A cold starting tip when the glow plugs are working:

Yes 363 is the correct price. But I would recommend Bosch over Beru. MICO Bosch lasts longer, from personal experience

Need help guys. My car has done 85K so far and I was told by TASS that the timing belt and gear box are running end of life and need to be replaced. How can we check the funtionality of these two things?

85k seems about right for a timing belt change. Even if it is functional now , it is better to change it, since the consequences of timing belt failure are catastrophic

1. Get timing belt changed. Better safe than sorry.
2. Get clutch plates change if you have issues like judder etc., else you can go on for another 20K kms
But do get gear oil changed.
For other changes refer to owners manual. It clearly tells what should be changed when!

Need suggestions for Xeta 1.2L - 5K Kms Olg

Friends,

Need couple of suggestions for the problems faced in my Xeta
  • I have a strange issue of Head Lights. The Left is Brighter & Powerful than the Right. I changed my Head Lights from Stock to Philips & am facing this problem since then. I tried with different sets of bulbs & different mechanics but no one is able to solve my problem.
  • Second, the milegae, I get only 9KM with 100% AC in City. Need Suggestions to improve on it
Also please suggest if I need to go for Paid Service. My 10K 2nd Free Service is Due in Feb '09.

Regards
Marlon

Sorry, I had not looked at this thread since most of the queries were for the diesel. Hope this is not too late.

How much has your car run so far? Who is this dealer who uses VEEDOL?
On a cold morning, I can see some smoke coming from my LSi's exhaust (BS-II) but nothing radically different from other cars (all makes / petrol models).
