If you read the page number 148 in servuce manual, they have specified change of engine oil and filter every 7500km. The conditions are :
1.Driving

Just FYI, the 3 litre has a 5k service interval but the oil changes happen every 10k kms - I think you're getting mixed up about what you want to ask? |
For the 2.2 Tata suggests if most of the driving is within the city (congested areas) then oil must be changed every 7,500 kms.
sorry guy incpmlete post got submitted.
The conditions are :
1.Driving on dusty/sandy roads
2. More than 50% driveing in heavy city traffic ( which we do)
3. Frequently operating in mountain area
4. Driving as taxi, pickup etc.
So the first 3 points are valid for almost all Safari users :)
So we need engine oil and filter chhange at 7500 km
Guys
Why dont we club all the Safari threads? We have more than enough already - one for service in Bangalore, one for service in Delhi, one for Tyres, one for Audio et al. And now we have a thread for regular service!
Yeah! There are way too many *active* safari threads on the forum....
Steeroid is right.
Tons and Tons of confusion,i dunno why TATA is doing this ?
Well I asked 2.2 owners only.
I came to know that some 2.2 owners have a 3.0 service manual!
But one thing is certain. Some people have service interval of 15K kms, while others have a service interval of 10K kms!

Isnt that the case with all cars.
We have a Swift Audio thread, a tyre thread etc., etc.,
I started this thread because having different service intervals for different people for the same vehicle is really weird.
I know it look like there are many safari threads floating around. One of the reasons could be the huge number of people who have bought the 2.2(10 I think) on this forum and have posted intial ownership reviews!
Now from where did we get this figure of 7500kms. This is confusing! Why doesn't someone from the forums owning a 2.2 mail someone at Tata Motors and inquire in detail about the current service interval that Tata is recommending. This should be able to clear all doubts and reservations.
Regarding the clubbing of all threads relating to the 2.2, I don't think it is a good idea as it will add to a lot of confusion. However, no new 2.2 threads should be allowed and members should be asked to post in an on-going thread.
I will go with what they have written in their book, 15k or 1 year for first oil change.

So dadu, are you willing to "risk" the large service interval or are you going with 10K as the interval? |
As bruty mentioned the points, they have given those in the ifs/buts clauses.
More than 50% is very relative, if I drive 10km a day in the city, do I qualify for it ???

Same service schedule for me too.

tsk I got the manual with my Dicor 2.2 VTT and it says the service intervals are: ( These are printed on service vouchers)
1St service : 1000-1500 or 1 month whichever is earlier
2nd Service : 15000-15500 or 12 months whichever is earlier
3rd service : 30000-30500
4th service :45000-45500
5th service 60000-60500 |
And it becomes 7500 km if you think you fall into these conditions

I have driven for around a little above 4000 km of which around 1200 km have been pure hills and rest highways [some good, some bad].
I personally feel that no way the mineral oil that they filled up [GTD or GTX] and then whatever they topped up with during PDI [definitely GTD]will last for 15 k. The engine oil right now when I checked has become somewhat black and also I see a decrease in the engine oil level.
I thus intend to change at 5-6k levels with GTX and then go for the next oil change around at 15k, since I mostly use the 2.2 for highway tours - of course if the oil colour and level remains okay. Otherwise will service it at 7.5k levels at least for now.
GTD is lower spec that what is recommended in your service manual. Using this can harm your engine.

Yes that is why exactly I did not change the engine oil when I saw in the service centre that they are still putting in GTD, and now waiting for them to get GTX and then will go for a oil change.
