Its bad for the engine and engine oil.
U'll need to reduce ur oil change interval timings.

For 1 km, you better get a bicycle

As a thumb rule, min distance/duration is when your temp gauge reached halfway mark.

Either walk to office
OR keep the engine in idling for about 20 seconds after you start your car(if it is a petrol car).

1km, Walk dude, just walk....
4 years ago, my office was 1.5km from home...Then I decided to use my bike (i didnt have a car then) only for weekends and used to walk up and down. My health was like perfect, extra fats burnt away...

Life is not always same, now I drive 26km each way and I get tired driving in my car in mad blore traffic (although i donot get tired driving all day on a NH for 500km)

Abhi

I too have similar 1Km commute each way, but I won't bother walking. The road I take has no shoulder or footpath. I don't want to become roadkill in the night.

How can you enjoy in a 1 Km drive, I mean it would be like taking a test drive of the same car Daily

Well unless the road conditions are bad I mean traffic dimly lit etc walking\riding a bike cycle(for health ) should be fine

My guess is that you do NOT recharge enough in 1 kilometer of city driving to make up for the discharge of 1 start. But it is only a guess. As noted by others, it is not a good idea for other reasons. I think you might tend to carbon up the anti-polution equipment for one thing.

if you only commute between office and home then better walk, if its viable.

Battery will be fine till it ages, modern alternators are pretty efficient that way. The silencer can be a problem area with rusting due to vapor condensation of short commutes, esp if your car belongs to susceptible list (iKON for one is notorious). And yes sticking to 3 months service interval definitely will do you some good.

Otherwise short commute will not kill the car in anyway
