I have this indicator coming up randomlly especially when conering hard. This issue has been there for many months & the last couple of times it was taken to the Auth Service centre they could not figure it out.

last week i showed it to a mechanic who used to work for fiat in the past & he says its probablly water in the diesel tank. and that i should have the tank cleaned out.

I always thought the sensor was somewhere near or in the fuel pump and am not sure whether this is a good angle to investigate.

and ideas or suggestions from the Palio D gurus ?

Water needs to be drained out of Fuel filter. Please take it to the A.S.S and
they would do it for you in 5 min.

Clean Your Tank, Fuel Lines and Drain the Filter.

BTW how old is the car and where do you fill up.

the car is 4 years old & in goa.

so does anyone know where this sensor actually sits ?

^^The one person who can answer this question is 'turbosam'.
PM him.

the quick way:) ,switch off the ignition switch ,
disconnect the water sensor coupler of the water sensor which is located on the botom of the cartridge fuel filter ,
just unscrew the bottom drain bolt cum fuel sensor .drain the diesel+water out , refit in reverse order, crank for a while check for the light function.
the technically correct way,,, <and the costly one too>
first remove the water+diesel from the tank, clean the tank with a lint free cloth ,
then disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel injection pump. disconnect the pipe lines to and from the diesel filter.
blow clean, water separated air<all good workshops have water separators in the penumatic lines>from tank side making is sure that all the diesel+water is out.
remove the diesel filter drain plug which also acts as a water sensor too .
drain the fuel in a container .
if there is more than 20 ml of water, too much dirt, 30+k kms on it .REPLACE THE FILTER TOO
then fit everything properly .
pour good quality fuel ,
crank the engine.. it will prime the fuel filter,
after the engine starts, check for any leakages if any ,
check of u have not damaged, forgot anything else!!
check the diesel water contamination indicator for proper functioning.
enjoy the drive!
