Throttle body cleaning & maintenance

guys....the MUL service station people charge 600 bucks to clean the throttle body.
unlike the F.I.P which has a setup for cleaning i dont think there is any special setup for throttle body.
can we clean it ourselves at home??? its just a butterfly valve which is present there.....please suggest

600 Rs? Where ? It cost me 250 Rs only when I've got it cleaned few days back.I've seen the whole process and it can be done at home also if you know how to dis-assemble/reassemble the throttle body. Also there was a need to replace the TB gasket.Just remember it's not just the butterfly valve that you need to clean but also the small chambers inside the TB.Then only you'll feel the difference.
Regards,
Kaushik

For which car is it? Gaskets may require to be changed as well.

I was recently charged $150 for the cleaning of the throttle body on my Civic. Of course, it costed me another $80 to diagnose the problem. All this happened due to the check engine light coming on.

The showrooms do charge quite a bit, but ...Its not something which you yourself cannot do, just need to open and repack the throttle body.

To clean you need a good Carb Clean spray, like Carb Clean or STP which will cost from 100 to 200 rupees MRP.

Rs 50 to a decent garage guy....and Thats about it.

If you want to do it yourself...remeber :

1) Remove the Battery connectors.

2) Carefully dissamble the throttle body Bolts and Air filter Hose.

3) Spray good amounts inside and also depress the Valve and Spray throughly.

4) Let it dry for 10 min

5) Check again for any spot you missed

6) Carefully assemble the throttle back , reconnect the Battery.

7) Fire Up the engine and go for a good spin...feel the difference.

I am shocked that Maruti Authorised service charges Rs.600 for throttle body cleaning on an Alto.
Hyunsai Auth Service charges just Rs.75 for throttle body cleaning on a Santro.
I always felt Maruti Service is the cheapest in the auto industry.
& Hyundai Auth Service clearly display a labour & service price rate card in the lobby.
Check whether Maruti Service also displays a similar thing

what just 75 Rs for santro. great. seriously i too feel the process of cleaning it is not more and 100 to 150 bucks. 600 for such a simple process is something that all MUL dealers in pune take us for a ride.
but this price is quoted at every Maruti Dealer, whether chougule or sai service or my car.

I can assure you, Maruti DOES NOT charge this much. My service centre quoted me Rs.400/- for BOTH Injector cleaner AND throttle body cleaning.

Rs600/- for ONLY throttle body cleaning is plain con job.
