Last week i had 2nd free service (at 5000 kms) on my suzuki grand vitara. The manual says rotate the wheels during the 2nd service (5000 kms), but the service advisor (pasco automibile , Gurgaon) said that it should be done at 10,000 km. He also mentioned that every wheel rotation should be accompanied by wheel balancing (and that costs money). I have two query

1. Should wheel rotation done at 5k km or 10k km for Grand vitara

2. Is it advisable / necessary to get wheel balacing done after every such rotation?

Considering the size, weight and off-roadability of the Grand Vitara, I would rotate tyres every 5,000 kms. Held up on a ramp, it wouldn't take more than 5 - 10 minutes anyways.

Ideally recommended by most manufacturers is 10,000 KM but what is stated by Maruti follow that.

Wheel Balancing is not a mandatory thing along with Rotation, but should be done at periodic intervals, say Every 10,000 or 5000 if you ride off road often or you feel wheel vibrations on speeds above 70.

You can also get the wheels balanced at any aftermarket tyre dealer- Charges are aprox Rs 50 per tyre + 5 paise/gm weight used.

If you have Alloys, different weights are used, in the similar price range.

I would suggest, wheel balancing, rotation and alignment should be done together and as per mentioned in the service manual, it will increase the life of your tyres and be good for the suspension too.

5 or 10 k, its debatable. I have compromised at 7 k kms with balancing for front 2 wheels.

i usually rotate tyres at 5000km . wheel balancing should be done along with rotation so that theres no problem in the future and no need of taking out tyres again for balancing. balancing doesnt cost much its 20rs per tyre in our city
