How to differenciate between esteem and 1000?

Pretty simple actually. High-revv the car in second gear...If the speedo nears a 100, its an Esteem. If the engine runs out of breath at 70ish (or with the air-con on), its a Maruti 1000.

esteem 95 to 97 were as similar as the 1000s. the only exterior difference was in the fuel lid & the only interior diffference was in the steering wheel. the esteem had a different shaped centre with 'esteem' written on it whereas the 1000 had maruti written in hindi.

Not right. 1000 was relaunched in 98/99 and was in the mkt for a short while.

M-1000s are available from 1991 onwards right uptil 1997. It was stopped in 1998 & resumed in 1999 & went on upto 2000 & then buried.

Hi, just open the hood if the A/C condensor overlaps the radiator by half it is an esteem,other wise it is a 1000

but I don't want to buy a 1000 thinking its a esteem. the r.c says its esteem. visually it looks like an esteem but just want to make sure. Is there any other way to check like the engine and stuff. Thanks a bunch guys for all your sugestions finally bought the car today. Did all the checks you guys told me and yes it definately is an esteem. condition is quite ok but some minor works r there the RHS drive shaft bearing has to be relaced. there is a slight judder when you quickly release the accelerator and then then accelerate again.Don't know what exactly is the roblem any Inut guys? Mechanic says he needs to check susension bushes. Any esteem owners came across this?
