How to differenciate between esteem and 1000?

Guys my friend and I were looking for a 800 but ended bargaining for a 99 esteem vx fully loaded for 1.10 lacs. Now as we know that 1000 was also selling at that time is there any way we can differenciate between them. I may be sounding dumb but I don't want to buy a 1000 thinking its a esteem. the r.c says its esteem. visually it looks like an esteem but just want to make sure. Is there any other way to check like the engine and stuff. And what do you'll think about the deal the condition quite ok. Guys let me know soon cause we are getting the car tommorrow.

Search around in the gallery for an esteem engine pic.

the esteem has a green band on top of the windshield, 1000 does not

most 1000's have a clock on the room lamp console, esteems do not.(AFAIK)

Most importantly, just drive both and u'll feel the difference!!

Also, clear details about the engine capacity will be given in the RC book.

I don't think many 1000's were sold in '99, so i guess it'll most probably be an esteem.

EDIT: there was never a vx trim in the 1000! so if its got factory power windows, power steering etc, its definitely an esteem!!

just start it up. you'l hear the difference. the 1000 engine is lot quieter than it larger cousin.

visually the petrol filler caps on the 1000 were key operated while the once on the esteems were remote fuel filler caps.

the 1000's were sold till the feb 2000 as far as i know. i own and drive a jan 2000 maruti 1000.

besides esteems in 99 had the new interiors while the 1000 continued to roll out with the old interior. so if the car interior resembles the current esteem interiors then your safe. thats the facelifted type 2 esteem.

esteem_lover on our forum is a proud owner of a 1998 Esteem VX.

In addition to all of the above, you may want to check the engine number. If its an esteem it should start with 'G13' denoting that its a 1.3 L engine. G13A------- for the carburetted version and G13B-------- for the MPFI version.

In Addition to all this.. 1000 never came in VX and LX variants but Esteem did(Post 1996 models).

I am not sure if 1000 ever came with power windows and all but the VX definitely has power windows.

As far as exterior is concerned the petrol lid on the 1000 was "always" key operated.

The esteem has the tail lamp cluster whereas the 1000 has the black color plastic at the rear with two tail lamps at the ends.

The best thing to do is to open the hood and see the engine on a 1000 engine head it is clearly mentioned as MARUTHI which would be enbosed in big letters and on esteem there is no name mentioned and the engine size is much bigger or see the RC book of the car you will find the cc of the car writen for 1000 it would be 993cc and for esteem it wouls be writen as 1300 cc and the 1000 has stoped the production in the year 1994 so there is no chance that you will get a 1999 model in 1000

check the engine number 1st, other stuff can be tacked on easily like the badge, headlights, etc etc if the the seller was really intent of conning you..

When the Esteem first came out the only visualr difference between an Exteen Lx & M1000 were:

- 1.3L sticker near the side indicator
- Remote Fuel lid opener

Trust me a M1000 can never have the remote fuel lid opener all the other changes like stickers & tail lamps are pretty much doable & which most of M1000 owners do

Its got 1.3 written on the side indicators near the front door.

1000 never came up with vx version. Moreover, the tail lamp cluster in Esteem and 1000 are quite deifferent. This alone will be the indicator for Esteem or 1000. Leave alone the modifications done (if any).
