An update :
Inspite of my topping up distilled water in the battery and using the car regularly (which should make the alternator charge the battery), my battery woes remained. And this was one heck of a puzzle because it starts at first crank on a cold engine (even when I am using car after 7-10 days), but would not crank on a warm/hot engine.
This meant that there was no way I could kill the engine even while waiting at signals that were over 60secs long. And ofcourse the unpredictable behaviour was getting to me. So too the car to an Exide shop - he connects a box with 2 leads to the battery and pronounces his diagnosis - "cell weak, saar. Charge is there. You need to replace battery". He gives a quote of Rs4500 for a new Exide, from which he will reduce 400 for old battery.
Needing a 2nd opinion, I take it to the Amaron pit-stop. Here the guy checks each individual cell with a big filler kind of thing and pronounces one of the cells dead. The battery is now 40 months old and I guess time to replace.
I had never been happy with the Exide that came with the car. So decide to get an Amaron Flo 35A battery for Rs.3500, with a 2 year full replacement warranty and another 2 years of pro-rata replacement guarantee.
After so many weeks of worrying whether the car will start or not if the engine dies, it is such a relief after installing the new battery. I just hope it lasts atleast till the 4 year warranty period.
Recently we got Amaron battery fitted in dad's friends Baleno ( he also bought with us ). It costed us 3200 Rs. and we bought it from local shop. However, did you find something wrong i.e. duplicate battries of Amaron. I am afradi that this can be duplicate.
I think that it will last for more than 4 years. In our Maruti 800, it has lasted more than 4 years and is still running well.
Did the 2 years extra replacement warranty costed you extra. We were offered only 2 years warranty.

There are different sub-brands in Amaron like Pro (5-years warranty), Flo (4-years), then some 3 other brands with 3yrs, 2yrs and even 1year warranty. Price varies based on this. Why do you think this is duplicate ? I doubt if an Amaron Pit-stop (only 2 in Chennai) will dish out duplicate batteries.

No extra. It comes with the Flo range of Amarons.
I too faced a similar situation, sometimes my car refused to start and the engine malfunction light came on. However, the car started after some time but the light used to stay on. Initially I got the battery replaced, got the starter motor checked but the issue still persisted intermittently. I was scared to turn off the engine whenever stuck in traffic for long time. So finally it came out to be a faulty distributor, got it change and since then the car is running perfectly.
P.S. This is an input based on my experience, the case may different for different vehicles.
