Yes, my thoughts exactly, hence i asked. I will have to ask the guy to take a reality check and quote right, else will start looking for another competent guy to do the job at a realistic price. Thanks a lot for the inputs.

Re: Suspension Overhaul

Bumping an old thread. We have a 2008 Honda City ZX anniversary edition that is well maintained. Recently the co-driver side wheel well started making a constant noise when in motion. Honda ASS wants to change the entire shocker while a local mechanic said that replacing the bush might remove the noise too. I'm taking it to a TBHP recommended FNG tomorrow and happy to replace the shockers. However, I've some questions:

1. How much would the shockers cost approximately?
2. Is there any advantage in getting it done through Honda or third party shockers are good quality?
3. Anything else that I should be wary of?

Re: Suspension Overhaul

Just sharing some insights on the lower arm as I went through some suspension work on my Baleno 1.6 recently.

Lower Arm is the quite popular term when it comes to suspension overhaul, along with other components like strut/shock, tie rod end, ball joint, link road etc..

And a common advice that you hear from almost all of the mechanics if you encounter a lower arm issue is that, "Sir, you have to replace the lower arm as it cannot be repaired. You cannot replace just the bush etc..".

I recently had hiccups with the suspension and was not at all keen on replacing the arms (thanks to the astronomical prices of SGP parts (not MGP), and insisted the mechanic to try replacing the bush. He agreed and we sourced the bushing kit for a very cheaper price (Rs 680/-). It comes as a pack of all the bushes that you need plus additional spares as well.

The bushes for Lower arm:

Below is the lower arm assembled and new bushes put in. For removing/fitting the "Bush 2" the lower arms have to be taken to a lathe shop:

The ball joints and link road are relatively cheaper and can be replaced. The bushing kits have the bushes for those though.

The thud noise issue is resolved but I am not sure about the quality/longevity of these bushes and also not sure whether these are available for all models of cars.

Re: Suspension Overhaul

My CR-V has done 110k Km. On my last service visit, my SA at Solitaire Honda told me that the suspension has become "very weak" and needs an overhaul. He gave me a quote of 1.2-1.3 lakhs which sounds very high to me.

The things that need work in the car are (verbatim):
1. RHS engine mounting weak
2. Both IBJ play
3. FR both damper hard
4. Tie Rod End & IBJ play
5. Throttle body to air filter pipe cut

I have a few questions around this:

1. Should I get the work done at the ASS or an FNG?

2. If an FNG, can you give suggestions for Mumbai. I stay in Juhu.

3. For how long can it wait? I know answering this might not be possible without knowing the condition of the current suspension, but I have no clue on how to evaluate this myself and share it here.

If you have a reliable garage who can procure the parts and install, do take a quote from their. Am pretty sure Mumbai members can recommend few.

Is the suspension making any kind of weird sounds? If so don't delay the work for long, if not you should be safe. Again a very generic statement to check with the info available. From my experience Honda suspension does show wear from 80,000 kms onwards, so the diagnosis is kind of true.

Thanks for your response.

I only hear a faint "khad-khad" at low speeds and that too infrequently. Not sure if it is the road noise. I shared this feedback with the SA but could not do a test drive due to Covid restrictions.

The suspension being could be ball joints, bushes etc. Is the shock absorber leaking, does the car sag at one side etc. Get it checked from a competent garage. Check up the Team BHP directory. You can get genuine branded spares from sites like spares hub com. Avoid parts from local and china make brand as these will not last long. I had got my Civic (Honda Civic Independence : CNG'd. EDIT: 1,13,000 km up and SOLD!) suspension overhauled with parts bought online. The shock absorber OE brand is Honda Munjal. TRW will also do I guess.

The ASS is expecting to make some good $ out of your car. Please show it to a trusted FNG. You should be able to get it done at half the cost if at all there is any problem. Ensure the FNG uses OEM parts, which is what the ASS also would use.

Drive through broken road and pot holes and watch out if you hear any thuds. Unless you have abused the suspension in all its life time, it should not break down just like that. It could be just some bushes that must have gone bad. Service centers would never agree to replace the bushes or low scale jobs.

Forgot to add this. If this is Solitaire Honda Andheri then do check out below link.

Do not go to any HASS for the suspension overhaul.

Hi, I also stay in Juhu. I have a very good FNG who could take a look. He's honest, knowledgeable, reasonably priced and work quality is good. The only downside is that his garage is open air and not in the best of conditions but that said, I have never received the car back with any extra damage or issues. If you are interested then I can give you his contact number. He does all sorts of car repairs and outsources or calls in a specialist when needed.

Guys I also need to get some suspension work done on my Beat. The left wheel has some play in a forwards to backwards movement. What is likely to be the failed component ? Asking because Beat parts usually need to be ordered so I can get things ready before the suspension is actually opened up and diagnosed since I want to reduce my downtime.

Re: Suspension Overhaul

Friends, I wanted to recommend a FNG in Bangalore City, Vatsalya Car Care.

FNG Vatsalya Car Care, Opp J P Park, near new BEL Road, Mathikere, Bangalore.

This was a flourishing FNG in olden days but now wears dull look due to covid 19 and many other competing FNGs around the area.

I have serviced two of my cars regularly and this FNG has done suspension overhaul (front and back) for my xylo and also corrected minor rattles. My Xylo has been roughly used through kuccha , ghat roads on full load and suspension overhauling became a necessity and the job was done at affordable cost with genuine spares from good dealers.

I am touch with the owner Praveen Nair, and he is a great guy and a gentleman. He refuses to change working parts if there is life despite owners insistence, rather makes adjustments if someone is on a budget. I would recommend this pitstop to bangaloreans who live close by or even those who are far away from this workshop (Praveen or his workers picks and drops the vehicle for your convenience.

Sure, I guess it isn't against the rules since you are a newbie without PM access.

Chotu : 9324194949
He's in the Juhu Koliwada lane behind the church.
You can give my reference as Poddar from Beach Queen. Hopefully you get this as I will edit and remove it in an hour just in case it's against the rules
