Low fuel indicator lamp - Getz

Hi,
I wanted to know how much fuel is in 'reserve' when the low fuel warning lamp comes on in Getz? In my last 7-8 refills, the fuel indicator needle went all the way (almost) to E but the light never came on. When I went to refuel, the fuel hose got 'auto cut off' at 36/37 litres.

Now the fuel tank capacity is 45L. So, that means there was around 8-9 L still remaining in the tank. However, the light had not come on till then. I found this strange, because the needle was gravitating towards E mark
and I thought I was going to run it dry.

I have read on another forum that the indicator light comes on when there is 1L left in the tank (reserve fuel). If this is true, this would be a very unthoughtful quantity I guess!

Nishant, the light comes on when you have only about 5 ltrs left in the tank. I have tried this on my Getz.

Of what I remember from the Hyundai person who came to explain me the various features when I bought Getz 2 years back is, The Low fuel indicator Lamp starts blinking(on for few seconds and then off) when there is 7L of fuel left and it is permanently on when the fuel is below 5L.

Whats your car model? From your post, I infer its 2004 model. Does the feature vary in 1.1 and 1.3? or GL and GLS? (I guess not?)
Mine is Getz GL 1.3 Nov 2004

Are you sure about this malgudi?

I did a 418 km drive with my full tank over the weekend. Generally, my Getz's average is around 9-10 with AC. So with this much drive, I would expect to consume about 41-42 ltrs. But the low fuel warning lamp did not come on till now.

My Getz 2007 GVS's light has never blinked at 7 liters.. it would erratically come on and go off based on the car's level i.e. parked on a downward slope.. recently it was glowing mildly till the next bump on the road reset the indicator!! A minor distraction.

I had this experience only once so far. My fuel light indicator started blinking on my way back to office and I panicked & rushed to the nearby pump. It took in around 42 litres with auto cutoff.
Im confused now coz if the indicator blinks when it has 7 liters then i must have filled only around 38 litres :-(

In my experience as well, 5-7L is when the low fuel light comes on. There is no need to panic though if this varies in your Getz.

Most of the time, I re-fill fuel much before the level drops this low. I have a Nov 2005 Getz GVS (which is 1.3L) which gives me a FE of 10-11 KMPL in Mumbai with 100% AC usage.

Update - When I refilled, it took in 37 litres. This means I was 1 ltr short of seeing the magical flashing lamp. However, my fuel needle was touching E mark and quite distinctly below the line. Now I wonder what can be wrong - the light or the needle?

My simple rule is Whenever the light is on you HAVE to fill the car before 50kms.

Also this Fuel scale is smaller in size compared to NHC , so many times I felt that the light is not working as the needle was very near E. But is always works.

For me the needle has never gone below the E mark , the light glows before passing the E.

If this is not happening then there is a problem ( Mine is 2008 Getz model )

i guess it should be around 5L when the lamp lights up because i genrally tank up with 40L and have rarely found the light glow so a correct estimate would be around 5/6L in reserve

Same thoughts have been nagging me for some time. So I believe the consensus is ~5L?
