Best practices to drive in Heavy Rains/Thunder/Lightning

Folks,

To benefit all, can we please have experienced people share their thoughts & advice on precautions/care to take while driving in heavy rains/Thunder/Lightning?
Especially for the cars without defogger & read windshield wiper.

Hope this thread will be helpful to drive in city roads & in highways as well.
