Re: Detecting worn engine mounts

Yesterday I had to drive through a reasonably tall lump of debris of broken tree branches, leaves, etc. It was not hard as it was all wet but certainly pretty much everything of my Altis' underneath was nicely brushed by it. I checked to see for any damage or oil leaks but there were none and I successfully completed my journey (573 km).

However, what I noticed was that the floor felt a little rough above 120 kph, which was not the case before this incident. Am I looking at worn engine mounts?

Something could be stuck in the engine subframe or must have bent some component which is now touching the frame/body which is causing the vibration. You need to get the car up on a lift and inspect the underbody for any bends or stuck debris.

Something is stuck between a static and a dynamic part. I mean to say something is lodged between a moving a non-moving/body/chassis area. That is the reason the engine mount or gb mounts are not able to stop that vibration from coming into the cabin.

Check radiator fan area, axles/shocks - these are the usual culprits. 99% in the front of the car, just in case check the rear axles/suspension too.

Altis rear mount gone bad.

I've noticed that my 2008 Altis AT rear mount is cracked and now the car jerks(the engine moves a bit) when changing to D or R.

So I ordered the same OEM (12371-0D220) from Boodmo but even after waiting for 2 months, they couldn't procure the same. Now I have found the mount (12371-0D210) that goes in the manual variant.

My question is, would it work for automatic? Anyone who has experience with toyota mounts please let me know. Better yet if possible let me know where I could find OEM mounts online or very good quality after market. Thanks.

As long as the engine code remains the same, there is no harm in using a engine mount from a different transmission. But be sure that this is the engine mount only, and not the transmission mount. Engine mounts can be swapped with the same engine only( regardless of transmission, works at least with the VW group). Before swapping, thoroughly verify the geometry of the mount, if it is matching, you may go ahead and replace it with the old one.

Happy Motoring!

I've visually inspected it. I don't see any difference. Yes, changing the engine mount only with a manual. Transmission mount I have found for Automatic. At least as per boodmo fit check.

I will update once I get everything and install them in the car itself.
