hi guys,

I own a 2001 esteem vx ,clocked 130000km, for some last 2000-3000 km the tachometer needle starts vibrating if the engine rpm go high. I have no clue to why this happens.

I had observed the same phenomena in Peugeot 309 but it was from the very beginning. so did not do anything.

Somebody can please throw some light on th issue and help me retify it.

Perhaps the tacho cable needs a change. Does it wobble at idling too.

no it doesnt wobble while idling

Your spark plugs or coil wires could be shot, causing wierd currents in the system.

Just get it checked with a mechanic

Rightly said .. This might be one of the cause.
Replace those faulty spark plug chords ..

Could be a problem with the ignition coil too?

Does the cable wobble when you go over the potholes ?

Is it just the cabble or do you actually feel the rpm changing?

most likely the curlprit is tacho cable..... also look for any loose joints on either ends of the cable.

Precisely at or after what RPM does this wobble occur?

i observed yesterday, actually the wobbling occurs at high rpms like 1700 or low rpms of about 800-900 gets a bit stable at the middle.

sorry guys its the speedometer cable that i was talking of.stupid:

What RPM and at what speeds?

Most likely the speedo cable. The other thing could be the drive gear in the gear-box or the speedo assembly in the instrument cluster..

Is it the tachometer needle or is it the speedometer needle that is vibrating?

If speedo needle then at what speeds does it vibrate? Does the vibrations stop once you cross a particular speed?

Replace the speedometer cable, the vibrations will stop
