Well, these are OEM batteries we are talking about and were fitted by the manufacturer on the assembly line. There is no question of counterfeit batteries here.

Totally agreed. I used to be an Exide fan but have burnt my fingers too often in the last 5 years. No more Exide for me.

Well, interestingly I've not had too bad experience with Exide purchased... but OEM exides haven't been good!!!

but what i have observed is that .. the battery life has some kind of pattern for each car!

Like my alto finishes up an Exide in 2 years everytime!... but the WagonR.. runs for 3+ always!... (similar cars .. similar sized batteries!!)

PS Alto is 6 years old... wagonR is 7.5...

gto go for AC DELCO maintenance free if you can get your hands on it has 7 yr warranty and I have been using 6 yrs now and no problem at all. I only suspect one flaw that is power holding capacity which I am not sure whether its due to my car being rwd. I once had a flooded carb and the battery went dead in 14 cranks of 5 seconds duration each. (clutch depressed position). But otherwise as my machine is in top tune it just starts in half crank!!

Do you think I'd buy a petrol Indigo . Diesel. Why the doubt on price? I should get the bill tommorow, though have been informed that it will be 4xxx.

7 year warranty sounds tempting. But is it comprehensive (replacement) coverage for 7 years, or one of those residual value type of warranties?

I have always had good experiences with Exide, our Maruti 800 (1995 model now sold) used to always Exide : the OEM lasted around 5 years, we replaced with Exide again (indicator model), and did not face any problems. Also, in the KiHo scooter, the OEM was Exide, then replaced with SF (due to lower price), but the Exide had given trouble-free service during its life.

I too have had a pleasant experience with Exide so fars. My Exide in my 800 lasted for nearly 6 years! On my WagonR, it lasted 4 yrs, 2 months.
Why are people complaining?

While everybody talks about the poor life of Exide (and sometimes others), I wonder how many on this forum check the battery regularly. A battery, OEM or aftermarket, comes with a warranty card and page detailing the (monthly) checks by the battery dealer.

How many folks get things like specific gravity checked regularly? Battery load test, anybody? Water / electrolyte levels?

I don't intend to offend anybody but seems like we take a battery for granted.

If you could pay for the 'busted in 13 months exide' battery, we definitely wouldn't complain.

The exide in my Santro lasted nearly 6 yrs, till I sold the car off.

However, the exide in my new car (6 months old) conked off two weeks back. On top of it, the so-called service advisor told me that I must have left something on and the battery has simply discharged!

Well, he was proved wrong when the battery was found faulty. It has been replaced under warranty, but with another Exide. I am keeping my fingers crossed...
