Poor cooling in Lancer Glxi petrol

I have recently bought a Lancer Glxi 2000 model and the air conditioner effect is poor. What could be the possible reason? Some one told me that filling gas will increase cooling. But in the service center , they told me that the airconditioner coil may have to be replaced and it would cost me Rs 8000+extra . Will it really be this expensive? Is there any other place where I can get it done for a lesser cost in Chennai?

Also, it has a Kenwood 10CD changer system. I want to buy a DVD cum MP3 player in exchange of this. Where can I get this done in Chennai?
I am completely satisfied with my car except for the airconditioner and the music system. Lancer Rocks !!!

Without knowing the prior history of the car, it is difficult to say that the problem could be. At this stage, I would believe the authorised service center. Did you get the car's service history? Can you check to see if any related parts were replaced / repaired?

Get your car checked up by an air-con specialist to confirm. It could be that the air-con only requires a service (blower cleaning, gas charging) or worst case, a part replacement.

When you say that the AC effect is poor, do you mean that it does not cool at all, or that it doesn't cool enough in the mid day heat. Hows the cooling during the evening ?
I would suggest you get a second opinion. HM isn't known for its A.S.S. Like GTO said, go to an AC specialist. Most probably your AC just needs a service. Should cost something around 1500 - 1800.

Get the coil removed, and cleaned. At the same time, Clean the Condensor and Radiator with Shampoo solution and moderate pressure water spray...And get the AC system serviced ie. Gas Recharged and plugged for plausible leaks.

If this does not solve the problem, then it has to be diagnosed as Coil or Compressor failure.

Are you also facing low power, or inefficient pick-up..???

Got it fixed

Thanks for all your replies.
Got it fixed with A/c mechanic.
When he checked it, the gas was empty.
He had to check where the leak was and found that the pressure switch had a leak. He replaced it for Rs. 775 and filled the gas for Rs. 1500
Now it works great.

if the gas is empty then just replacing part and refilling gas is not the solution.

After fixing the part, the existing receiver dryer has to be removed, air passed to clean the lines, Fix New Receiver, a pressure test has to be done for atleast 15 mins and if it holds pressure with NO drop, then Vaccum the Ac system to clear of all air, fill compressor Oil and refill with freon.

reason for the above is if empty on gas there wont be pressure and there will be air inside system which will create moisture and mositure is bad for AC system.

THUMB RULE: whenever any part of your AC system is changed make sure Receiver is also replaced and if its a overhaul every 2 or 3 years then to Receiver should be changed.

Query Regarding CC

I've replaced my Compressor 1 yr(lancer, petrol) back with new dryer and that time Cooling coil was working good and it was in good condition. Now, the problem is there is no cooling effect! Taken her to AC mechanic shop and after inspection he said there is an leak somewhere and because of that all the gas have gone. I asked him to check the cooling coil also and its in bad condition itseems so i need to replace Cooling coil and refill the gas. He quoted 5.5k for Cooling coil(dont know which make he mentioned). My queries are:

1. How much the cooling coil cost in chennai?
2. Is it possible to repair the existing cc?

Help me guys

cheers
