Team-BHP - Low Oil warning light

My CRDi recently underwent a complete oil change at the 10k kms service. Prior to this, for somedays it would show the low engine oil light which is understandable but now even after the service? I fail to understand this. Any leads ?

In my opinion, you took a tremendous risk by driving with the oil warning light on for a couple of days before the service.

Even if the oil level is correct, the light could come out due to bad oil pressure (a faulty pump). I hope that your warning sensor is faulty than any of these two reasons.

Get it checked ASAP, and dont drive it till you sort the problem out with an authorised Hyundai service station. CRDi engines cost a B-O-M-B to rebuild.

With the new technology engines, you gotta be extra careful, any warning signs, get the car checked with an authorised dealership.. Else the car's gonna go the junkyard man..

Can you please run the car for 5 minutes and then immediately stop the car and check your oil level in your engine. Could be that the engine oil was kept to a lower level in a standing car and was not checked after starting the engine. This is critical as the oil takes time to circulate before it comes back into the sump and an initial low level will lead to the oil low warning light to come on. And also check for oil leakage near the oil filter.

This is exactly what my driver also said. He says that when starting for the first time, oil takes time to recirculate & this could be the reason why it shows the low engine oil light. BTW, this happens only when the car has been kept standing for a long time like morning starts or when started after 4-5hours.

Usually the oil lamp turned off immediately after starting. For the last few days, It takes a few seconds. Should I be concerned ?

First of all having an oil warning light on is serious. Like GTO mentioned, you should not really drive the car until it is diagnosed fully, otherwise you may need a new engine very soon. The possibilities are:

1. Very low oil level

2. Low oil pressure due to faulty oil pump

3. Defective oil pressure sensor

Just check the oil level of a cold engine and make sure it is up to the full mark. Not the lower mark, but FULL. Even a little overfull is o.k.. This will eliminate any chance of low oil level. Needless to say, check for leaks under the vehicle and the oil filter.

Turn on engine. There should be no oil pressure light on whatsoever.

If the light still comes on, put in a new oil pressure sensor.

If the light is still on, take it to a good service center and ask them to check the oil pump.

RJK the oil light is never understandable and should never come.Even if the oil level is perfect,dont drive.There could be a an oil pump failure which could lead to low oil pressure/no oil supply.
Car should never ever be driven with the oil light on.
When you start your car,oil lamp will vanish in say max 2 seconds.
